What's the strangest thing you have decided to recycle?

We are each trying to do our part to recycle and reuse natural resources. What's the strangest thing you have decided to recycle or put to new use. Or what thing in its original use wasn't so strange, but what you did with it, was rather strange?

Hmmmm...Not sure whether this can be said recycled. Every month we buy Corn Flakes cereals for our family which comes in big size hard board boxes. And we buy water cans every week. I made a toy for my son with those boxes and the lids of those cans. I just put two boxes together and bound it with a tape. Used those lids as wheels for that bus. He is enjoying this homemade toy so much.

smart father ! My recycle is paper recycyle. I use the used paper in the office for photocopy and printing. Every time double side printing. I just don't see why other workers throw away the paper which is still usable , new. they waste packs of paper every month.

My mother used to make us toys from round oatmeal boxes. They became trucks and buses, cribs for small dolls and savings banks. I'm glad you're teaching your son that you don't have to spend money to have fun toys!

That is an interesting question and one that will draw me back to see what others have said. I am not very imaginative in that way. I usually don't see the possible uses unless someone points it out to me.

It was worth the trip back to see all the good ideas. Some folks are very clever!

Some folks have the eye for thinking up creative things. I have a touch of the creative, but I lack what it takes to carry it out sometimes. Do check back.

As a native American, I recycle many things back into my crafts including teeth of animals, porcupine quills as well as may other things that would normally be thrown out. The Creator gave us things to work with and I believe that we should not be wasteful but reuse what we have so as to not overburden the landfills any more than we have already. We try to buy food that is in recyclable containers as much as possible for that purpose also.

When we tore down our garage we found a concrete riser that's about 4.5ft tall. Seeing we didn't know how to dispose of it as it came with the house and frankly didn't know that the garbage guys would take something that weighed that much. I fliped it upright and filled the bottom with rocks and sticks from the yard and the rest of the way with dirt and I planted some petunias in there and some vines that drape and it makes a cute planter. I also have seen folks cut out part of the seat in old kitchen chairs and use them as planters so I found one curbside and I will have my hubby cut me a hole for a pot and vola I will have a new planter and or lawn decoration.

Hey! Some good ideas. Speaking of gardens and such, I have a gopher I'd like to get rid of. I have a Jack Russell terrier that would like to help, but she is white and spends time in the house. I'd rather she didn't spend time digging up my garden. The gopher is doing enough of it right now. Do you know any natural ways to get rid of gophers? Toy windmills?

I recycle xerox copies and make them into scratch paper. I don't think it's strange though. But that is what I recycle.

It may not be strange, but every little bit helps. And it saves you money on doodling paper too.

This isn't too strange of a recycling experience, but it is something out of the ordinary as far as furniture goes. I recently moved into a new apartment and bought a new tv as well. As far as tvs go its not too big, but it is not one of the newer flat screen ones, so it is a good sized and tall box. Well I was keeping the box just in case I had to end up returning the TV. It was right next to my front door for the longest time and it turned into a shelf to put my stuff on when exiting and entering my house. So I now use it for my keys, purse, etc. I am a college student so is not too worried about how well it really looks here, but it sure is practical. Maybe I will paint it black to make it match the rest of my furniture, lol.

Put a scarf or tablecloth over it and call it an end table. You do know they make furniture out of cardboard for sale. You could claim it as one of the trendy pieces.

I wash and reuse the plastic jars that mayonnaise and peanut butter come in - they make great air-tight canisters for various uses. I don't like keeping things like salt and baking soda/powder in the cardboard containers they come in, so I use these screw top containers for them - I label with a black permanent marker.

Good reuse of them. Some folks say there is toxic compounds from certain plastics, but then it would have leached with the first food product too. I think you have done well to label too.

I think they just tell us those things so that we'll go buy expensive storage containers or drink bottles instead of reusing what we have!

I recycle-or reuse-my guitar strings. There are pretty little metal balls on the end to hold them in place at the bridge and I cut those off and make jewelry out of them. The thinner e and b strings can be used to hang pictures, string beads on to organize them, and anywhere you need some kind of wire fastening. The thicker ones can be used to hang heavier things like tools. I even made an antenna out of a low E strings once and it worked nicely!

These are some great ideas. It makes it a little less painful to pay the price of new strings, if you know there are end used for the broken ones.

dragon I should show this to my hubby he's got a guitar with a few broken strings and a broken bridge I don't know that he'll play it again or get it repaired as he was trying to teach himself how to play it

SnuggleBunnies, there are a lot of free lessons on the net and they've helped me a lot. Although I'll never play well, at least I've learned the basics and I have a lot of fun with it! Tell him not to give up!
