we need gardening help

Hi, We are beginning gardners and we need your help. We live in Georgia and would like to know the best way to plant a garden and keep it up. We are in drought conditions most of the time, but we can water the garden ourself. We would like to grow some squash, corn, onions, okra and peppers. Is there anyone out there with a green thumb that could give us some good advise. Thanks
