Have you ever gone back to a childhood place only to find it gone or destroyed?

I recently went back to my childhood home. It was still there but the whole neighborhood had changed completely. Believe it or not, some of my neighbors I grew up around were still living there but the whole place was completely different. I guess you can't go back. Anyone else gone back to a childhood place only to find it very weird?

I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the good news is that the house I grew up in is still there. The neighborhood is pretty much the same, except for what was once my back yard. My back yard had a golf course that ran through it. Well, the bad news is that apparently the golf course was sold, and now another neighborhood developement has been built right over the entire golf course! There is barely a backyard to my old childhood home now; there's a tall wooden fence dividing what little backyard is left of my old house, and then the new developement starts. The lake that I used to race my dad (who is now deceased) from is no longer there - it was not even included in the new developement. They have filled it in and build right over it. Nothing stays the same.

Thank you for your post ihearttinytim. I agree. Nothing ever stays the same. The house where I grew up is still standing but it is unrecognizable. Whenever I drive through the neighborhood where it is, I just want to cry because of all of the changes. Thank you again for your post!

Hi i was living so close to my childhood house, when i was passing by i'd like to stare at the window which used to be my bedroom. And sometimes i even see my face looking outside the window. I actually was born in this house and lived 18 years, i have lots of memories. I actually still see my dreams like i am still living in this house. I am 32 by the way :) Hsve a great day!

You are very lucky, zabawaus! I live about an hour from the place where I grew up. And, by the way, I'm 46. Thanks for posting and have a great day!
