how do you punish your children,have you ever gotten any as a child?

When i was child and i would do something wrong its either i meet a spank(a very tasty one,or i would be locked in a dark room. i see many parents have done other things like having their child kneeling for hours and spanks. some parent abuse their child/children. but you know those punishment did not have much effect on me and because of being locked up in a dark room i'm no longer afraid of the dark! what effect does these punishment had on you,how do you punish your child?

My parents used to spank me, my dad used a leather belt on my bare butt. I was also grounded as punishment, meaning NO TV, NO GOING OUT, NO PHONE CALLS for whatever the time was that they set. I put my son in a "time out" which is just sending him to a corner on a chair or his room for about 2 minutes. I tell him that once he has calmed down and can apologize, he can return. It works like a charm. I find most of the time, if my kids have a good nite's sleep and are not hungry, they are very reasonable, but if they are either hungry or tired or both, they can be little hellions.

His behavior has improved a lot. I think the main thing is to be consistent. In other words, don't "threaten" a punishment and then don't follow through with it. Children look to you for guidance and you have to set the ground rules and be consistent always. Jamaica huh? Lucky you!

Depends on the situation. Usually for the little ones it is a time out and 1 min. for each year that they are. The older kids take away going out or the phone. Talk to them and make sure that they understand what they did that was wrong also dont wait to punish do asap with little ones because if you wait like a friend of mine does till hubby gets home they dont remember what they did wrong.

I was stood in the corner, spanked, and if i was mouthing off or cussing...i got my mouth washed out with soap. I even got smacked across the face a few times when i was a teenage for disrespecting my mom. I learned to be more respectful and not misbehave. It kills me that now people say that with being spanked and smacked that i was abused..um no i was disciplined, and you know what...it worked. I look around at kids today and see how they are disrespecting there parents and the parents are not doing anything about because they either don't believe in spanking or just plain to scared to do it. Its killing our society.
