I am from India and we have so many service providers in every circle/ state.. Lets count in Delhi we have In GSM 1) Airtel 2) vodaphone 3)Idea 4)Dolhin 5) Reliance IN CDMA 1) Tata 2) Reliance 3) Garura 4) virgin and couple of providers got license recently so we have over 10 service providers.. I had used Vodaphone, Dolphin, Reliance and tata in past and currently using Airtel which i find best as it gives me unlimited net ( though slow) and sound is clear and it is totally Indian brand with no foreign partner. Also after each call it sends me sms how long was the call and how much it costed me and how much balance is left in my account. Same it does with SMS ( text) So which is ur service provider and are you happy with ur service provider

hi neha2k94u, yes you are right about GPRS being free while roaming and since i posted this discussion they have revised GPRS rates from 300 to 500 which is a shame.

Two major service provider in the Philippines is Smart Communications and Globe Telecom. My first cellphone given by my father was powered by Smart Communications and it dates back 1998. I retained the number since it is a postpaid plan. I also have a cellphone powered by Globe Telecoms which is my vanity number.

hi bubbletush, Thanks for the response and i wish you too had more choice in choosing your provider as i have seen rates here going down like stock prices as more and more players are added. Yes it is nice to retain the number as everyone has it and dont have to change your number everytime you change it.

I am using Airtel. In our place i have good network coverage and also good customer care centers. Also the GPRS facility is best and cheap internet service in India. So i prefer airtel and i am using it for past 4 years.

I am from the Philippines and i am using Smart. I have been using Smart since 2002 and i am still using the same number. We also have Globe, Sun and Red. Smart and Globe are on top of the network war. I have a Globe phone too. I think Smart is well balanced in a sense that all features are covered (...excet call divert) at fairly good price. Sending MMS is even cheaper compared to Globe. Phone call are pretty clear too with less dropped calls. Smart highly supports 3G phones.

Thats good and i do feel that there should be more providers so there is always high compitition in market and ultimately consumer profits as in india the call rates have come down to 1 cent per minute ( 50 paise)

Hello dear agrim, I am from India too. As you have said we are quite lucky that we have so many service providers in the mobile phone sector when I compare this figure with some other countries people of which have replied to your post. You also have rightly said that competition benefits the customer, otherwise they would charge as much as they like. You have missed my service provider which has both the services GSM and CDMA and is introducing 3G and that is BSNL. It is quite honest in billing but as with other government organisation sometimes the service does not remian at the acceptable level. However, they are constantly giving a facility of calling one phone for Re 0.20 a minute. I am to call one number frequently and for long durations. It gives me a very lower cost of use. Happy celling

Currently i am using Vodafone as i am also from India. It is a good service provider but recently has increased tariffs and slashed talk time. I had used Airtel earlier and it was great too.

I use Airtel and i am quite satisfied with it. I dont get much drop calls or signal failure. Net on it is very slow but trust worthy and it costs only 300 rs a month so far cheaper than any other mobile service.

In Andhra Pradesh, India. Here we have many service providers like Vodafone, Airtel, Idea, Reliance, Virgin, Tata. Among these vodafone is the best in our area. Then airtel. But these days reliance has introduced GSM Simcards here and got the second place pushing Airtel back by providing many promotional offers which are very good. It is giving daily Rs. 5 for free and unlimited talktime to any reliance mobile between 23.00 hrs and 06.00 hrs. And it is also offering 50 minutes of STD talktime with just Rs. 35 per month and your STD call rates would be just Rs. 0.70 per minute when you complete your 50 minutes of talktime.

Thanks for the response and the information swaroopmsc, though i never liked reliance when i had its CDMA phones as they would give bills which were far from truth and i always think reliance is not a trustworthy company so be careful if you take post paid.
