Every country have different accents in speaking the english language. Chinese have a accent when speaking english. Australian accent is different from german accent, French english is different from african english, and so on and so forth. I am a Filipino and I am conscious that our accent is different than that of the other countries. However, I usually feel that our accent is not better than the others. Do you also feel the same way towards your accent too?

I am glad that mylot doesn't require us to speak English but just communicate through writing. It may sound funny to hear different accent of other countries specially to those person that English is not their primary language. English is complicated language for you have to speak it correctly so others may understand you for their are the same words but differ in meaning and also different words but the same meaning, and if you don't say it properly it may have other meaning too. Anyway, i don't really speak English at home even at work but i always hear English language in radio and t.v. programs, and even in the internet. Even though i can understand it very well but it is still hard for me to speak it correctly and i don't like my accent too. It is better to use my local dialect so that everybody can understand.

Every accent is sacred. We feel smell and flavor of the place from which the speaker of English belong. I am a Pakistani and I feel a pride to speak such accent of my township. This is not bad. Philippines speak good. We are global people and we should accept every accent of English language and we should distribute the respect. Those are more valued I think who try to speak like me having no first language English. I and many like me have right to be encouraged.

People foreign from us always say that. That we are good in english. But when it comes to me, I become timid with my own accent. Isn't it awkward to hear your own accent if compared to other accents?

Yep. I am from the Philippines, and when foreign people speak our language, it sounds funny for us. I also think that it is funny for english people for us speaking their language different from their accents. That's why I feel awkward with my accent.

I come from England and even just over here we have many different accents and dialects. If you heard a person from Birmingham talk to a person from Liverpool you would notice such differences. I find all the differences really charming. Dutch people are the masters of foreign languages and the can speak English with almost a neutral accent that is therefore hardly noticed. Language schools can have teachers with a British accent or an American accent. I feel at home with I hear an Australian accent because it seems normal to me and after a while I can speak just like they do. The New Zealand accent has s subtle difference. The south African accent is great. I like the way Filipinos speak English and the way Indians speak it is cute. I think a French accent is amazing. I think my accent is fine. I like the differences I hear in other people's English.

When I studied English, we were taught the British pronunciation, I just keep it all my career, and well understood by my colleagues. Nowadays, the American pronunciation prevails, it sounds cute. Australian accent is a bit different. I guess, for communication, accent is no big issue, we need to enrich of our vacabulary, learn native expressions, and improve fluency through practice.

I don't think accent matters as long as your pronunciation is understandable. Do not compare the accent with Amreicans, Australians or Europeans. What matters is clarity accent is your Trade mark not a curse. It is your Identity don't be ashamed of it. Imagine a westerner trying his/her talent speaking filipino.....

Hi yAks, I know what do you mean by your accents because there are filipino in my univeristy. Yes, I can differ each accent LOL. I have one friend form China, her English is very good, It is becuase She learnt from Singaporean hohoho. Malaysia also have differet accents, they add "lah" in the end of the sentence like "It's ok, lah", they called it manglish of malay english accent. On the other hand, Singapore also add some tone in ther singlish or singapore english. Me, Indonesian also have some difficulties to pronounce some words like "pronounciation" we spell it "prononsiasion" or something like that. I think, all of those are okeable if we still understand the meaning hohoho.

People say that I have an English accent and I am very comfortable the way I speak. It comes very natural to me and I have been speaking this way ever since I remember. I think the way most people in India speak is tough for me to ape although I can understand it perfectly.
