I think it really depends on the person and the type of call. There are TONS of people out there that CAN NOT AND SHOULD NOT be on the phone while driving...shoot there are alot of people out there that should not be driving period! But I do think that on a rare occasion that some people can handle the multi tasking of talking on the phone while driving. Also emotions big thing. If people are upset they should not only HANG UP THE PHONE...but also STOP DRIVING THE CAR!!! PULL OVER TILL YOU ARE CALM AGAIN!!! I don't care who you are! I do often talk on the phone while driving, BUT I turn it off if the conversation is too emotional, or I'm in traffic or driving in conditions where I need to concentrate. Looking for an address...traffic...weather...stuff like that I get off the phone. I tend to use the phone more in conditions like on the freeway during straight spurts of little traffic. I know...I'm bad and suck, but I like to talk...so I set it on speaker and throw it on the seat next to me or up on the dash. If you can hear me and I can hear you...how is it any diffrent that someone sitting in the car with you talking?

I have been in many close-calls caused by people chatting on their phones and not paying attention to the road. And I can't imagine if someone was in a dramatic conversation- they are probably barely paying attention. I have heard a comparison with cell phones and driving drunk or sleepy.

I really think it depends on the person. I think some people are more than capable of doing multiple things at once and talking while driving doesn't pose a problem for them. Others on the other hand, can only do one thing at a time. For example, my husband can be driving and having a conversation with a person in the car, not on a cell phone, but with a person in the car, and get so wrap up in the conversation that he forgets where he's going or what he's doing. So, the cell phone plays no part in his problem.
