WE live in a small town in Ohio, yesterday I had to take paperwork to another small town about 8 miles east of us. But first I had to stop at the doctor's office and get the paper I was turning in stamped by the doctor's office. I did this and when I started to the next town to turn the paper in, instead of going the interstate to the next town I decided to go the back way. I had lived up here most of my life till I moved to Louisiana and spent 17 years there so mind you it had been many years since I was on this back road, but many years ago we took this back from from the town I was going to, to a place that played music on the weekend, so I had traveled it many times and I felt secure in going that way.
After I got going, the road did not seem the same, there was curves in it that I didn't remember ever having to go around. But we traveled on,me and my husband. We came to a stop light that was never there before and so I stopped and it was Fairground Rd. on the other side the road it no longer said the name of the road that I had been traveling on, it said Hilltop and I had been traveling on Dayton/Xenis Rd. this confused me.I set for a minute and decided to turn right as I knew where this road was taking me, it just wasn't bringing me out where I wanted to go. MY hubby at that point said do you know here you are at. I replied at the bottom of this hill there is a bridge, and sure enough there was, it is where we used to skip school and go swimming when I was in school. (yes we was bad) any way we came out right by the place I was going. I went inside and dropped of the papers I had, couldn't of taken more than 5 minutes.
When we left I started into town, and we suddenly had to pull over because of a police car with it's lights on, coming towards us at super speed. I started back up again and had to pull over, there was at least 4 or more state troopers coming at me traveling about as fast as they could go. I told hubby must of been a wreck on Rt 68 because they was all state troopers, not city police.
We made our rounds and came on home and later I sit down to check my email, and in my email alerts from the local paper I saw the headlines, local boy killed on Hilltop Rd, at 12:45 today.
All of a sudden I realized that if I had continued on, instead of making that turn, we would of been right there where he wrecked. Seems he was going west, that would of been coming towards us, and ran out of gas. He called friends to bring him gas, they did, and I guess showing off, he jumped into his car and took off like a bat out of He*ll, and didn't make the big curve there and hit a tree. Paper said he was a honor student and a senior, what a waste of life and what a horrible thing for his friends to stand and watch.
I come to realize that if we had continued on he could of hit us, or we could of been right there when he wrecked. I would of been devestated to see something like this happen. I wondered if when I came to that stop light and looked around where I was at, if god didn't give me the wisdom to turn right and continue on into town. A parent lost a child yesterday, and I can imagine how they feel. Our young kids don't understand nor do they have the experience to handle a car like he was driving and that one mistake of him showing off cost him his life.
What do you think, do you think that just by chance I made that turn instead of going on, or god gave me the wisdom to turn there so that I didn't run into this young man on the road. Have you ever experienced something like this, where your decission to make a turn may of saved your life?
