Hi all I recently saw a documentary about organ donors, and that the medical sector needs them. There is a list that is so long, it takes ages before you can get a donor, and even then it is not certain. So I was wondering, do you think you could be an organ donor ? Even for someone you don't know ? I don't think I can do it, perhaps if I knew the person very well, I could do it.. But still I think it would be very hard for me.. What abou you ?

I did a research paper on this very subject some time ago. There are two types of donors: live donors, and cadaver donors; the latter being deceased when organs are harvested for donation (i.e.: the heart, lungs, corneas from teh eyes, etc.) Live donors can donate things like kidneys, bone marrow, blood, etc. without it affecting the quality of their own lives. I think being an organ donor is not only a noble thing for someone to do, but it is also very selfless and giving, and is much needed. My uncle had to have two kidney transplants; this prolonged his life until a few years ago, where he fianlly succumbed. I am an organ donor. I gladly donate while alive, too. if you decide not to donate, then that is your decision, but let me tell you - life is a precious gift.

I have told everyone in my family that when I die if there is something the doctors could use to donate the organs. People die every day waiting for an organ and if I have something someone need take it- it's not like I need it anymore. I think its kinda selfish not to donate organs to be honest with you.
