Do you feel that a person should change the line of profession when he/she finds no much scope in the same line? What are the factors to be considered before jumping into the new line? Should the change over be slow and steady or it should be done abruptly with courage?
Global economic recession is damaging all industries, but the hit is considerably more for some of them. This discussion is meant for the persons, who are sinking fast because of the economic slowdown.

I am someone who could describe myself as a "jack of all trades". I have done so many different kinds of work in so many different fields. It is exciting. It is kind of like being an actress and every new job is a new "role". For me it has happened this way because I didn't go to school for one particular profession. I have had interests in many different areas and pursued each one as the opportunity came up. I have been very lucky to have been given the opportunity to learn many different things. Currently I am unemployed and I will be doing something different new job. I don't know what yet but I am excited to try something new. I think that being flexible in this economy is good. I feel badly for people who only do one thing and when it is not in demand and they need work they are lost. That is something that will never happen to me!

It is really interesting. I feel you are a praiseworthy person. I never expected such a nice response. Yes, during economic recession, according to me change should be the way of life. Everyone has a number of capabilities, but unfortunately because of their rigid / biased mindsets, they cannot realize that. So, they suffer, your example is really an eye-opener. I wish you every success in life.

I used to work for a ship brokers as a container marketing controller. Then I was made redundant so I went off traveling. During that time I worked with some children and developed qualities like patience. When I came home I studied to become a primary school teacher.
Some people tend to be "Jack of All Trades" types that can do many different jobs in a lifetime. Other people make a relevant change like I know a lady that used to run a children's nursery and now she is training to assess student nursery nurses in their setting. It might be easy for a secretary to become a receptionist but for a person to become a vet would take years of studying and training. I think that one factor that should be considered is whether the job or career would be enjoyable and satisfying.
