Philippines

In the Philippines, eating with bare hands is commonly done. And people do really enjoy them. Especially, if you are eating salted eggs with dried fish. Or eating a crab, eatig will be more fun if you do it with your bare hands. Yesterday, my four-years old son, ate his lunch with bare hands He don't do it often, but when I watched him yesterday he was really enjoying what he is doing and what he is eating. How about you mylotters, do you eat with your bare hands? how often do you do it?

I don't like eating without using at least a fork or a spoon. Some things are impossible though, like chicken drumsticksticks or spareibs but I'm not comfortable eating them with my fingers. I can remember as I child I would get told off if I touched my food with my hands and I guess that's something I still remember from then. I love it that some cultures it's considered as bad manners and in others it is perfectly acceptable!

Hi fuzors! If I was on island then things would be different - there would be no-one to tell me off I also think that if I go to a country where it is not usual to use a fork then I would most probably do as the locals too. Especially if I was hungry Have fun!

Hi mysdianait. Thanks for the response. Here in the philippines, it is not really a bad manner to eat with bare hands. But usually in restaurants people use spoon and fork. But when at home especially in the provinces, people loves to eat with bare hands. take care

so in your country eating with bare hands is bad manner? i understand you. but sometimes we really have to decide if the situation needs it. for example if you got a plane crash and you got to an island, there are no spoons and forks there, so you have no choice but to use your hands to eat whatever food you will find there. am i right? and sometimes in other places eating with bare hands is not encouraged most to kids because kids play with their hands and if going to eat that they have not washed their hands they might get diseases. in every country, there is a opinion for that. all i can say that here in the philippines, we decide for ourselves if we are going to eat with bare hands of with spoon and fork. thanks for the nice talk! take care and godbless!

I love eating with my hands... but i don't do this often since i have a daughter to take care of... and there are only the two of us in the apartment... so i always need to have clean hands... But everytime we have fried fish... i would use my hands to eat... since it can be dangerous not to.. with all the bones... and fried fish taste better when we use our hands to eat...

hi! i agree with you. there are just some food that we can not eat using spoon and fork. one example is crabs. we can't get the crabs' shell off by using a spoon or a fork. and do you know that because of how to eat crab the right way, we have been added to the world history? when Gloria Diaz got her title miss universe because she used her bare hands to eat a crab. and that is really good. but we should always remember to wash our hands before we eat. thanks for the nice talk! take care and Godbless!

we usually eat with hands and it is very rare we eat with spoons. in india we always use hands for eating whatever the food is. it is our culture that we use hands to eat and also religiously we believe eating with hands and we also feel that it is more tastier to eat with hands than using the spoons. but here in germany people do use hands and always use spoons and all and it is their culture i can understand.

I do that too.. eating with my bare hands. but it depends on what food iam eating, whom iam eating with, and the location iam eating. its very fun eating without using fork and spoons in picnic. we usually bring foods that is easy to eat and can be eat using your hands only or what we call finger foods. Its very convinient. Oh, i remember there are many restaurants here in the philippines where eating in your own hands is advise.. ( most of them are seafood retaurants.)

not at all times. it is hard to eat using hands if the dish that you will eat with rice is soupy. like sinigang or nilaga. i like using hands mostly on barbeque, fried and sea foods. i also feed my children when they were still toodlers using my hands when i need to use hands. my children now that they are all teens does not use their bare hands on eating. they mostly do that only when we are out for swimming or picnic.

somethings I enjoy eating with my hands - such as a sandwich or the little bit of meat left on a bone, pickles, fresh fruits and veggies or like you mention crab legs. I do not like to eat with my hands things that are easily eaten with fork or spoon such as soups and pastas or cooked fruits and veggies. I prefer to keep my hands clean - if they get things on them I am distracted by it.

i love eating with my hands. i guess the reason for that is when i was young my grandmother, who is the best cook in the world, would grant me the privilege of eating with her. she often eats with bare hands and yes, i could smell the freshly brewed kapeng barako and siniaing na isda. that is also why i always clip my fingernails everyday.

Personally i love eating bare hands especially if its a crab, salted egg, grilled chicken or hito (catfish), hot rice and fresh fruits served on a banana leaves. Wow! yummy ...hehehe i am now imagining and actually starving..lol

Dear friend, I do mostly eat with my hands and before that make sure that my hands are clean. Here in India as I am a South Indian we rarely use spoons or spork to eat food but still at times we use it also. But moslty at home I do use my hands. It also depends what food I am having.

I do eat with my bare hands from time to time especially eating those foods that you have mentioned. Btw, i am from the Philippines too so that is really common and I think most of the Filipinos knows how to eat with bare hands. If I my add there are also restaurants were eating with bare hands is allowed and people doesn't look at you with derision. .

well. .. it mostly depends on what you are eating.. say if you're eating fried rice or noodles .. the only way you can eat it with a fork and a spoon.. and a bread toast would require a knief and a fork.. but when you are faced with crab and such stuff i really don't see how anyone can probably manage that without their bare hands.. .... eating with hands is mostly based on where you are born and what your regular menus are..
