Is it ok to take vitamins before going to sleep?

Will it still be effective? I'm just thinking about taking it at night before going to sleep. Taking my vitamins usually upsets my stomach and it would be bothersome if i have to go out like work.

Since our systems slow down when we are at rest, I would think that it would actually be beneficial to take them at night. Doens't it seem that the slower they leave our systems, the more will be absorbed? Makes sense to me. Why do they upset your stomach? Can you buy coated ones that are easier on the stomach? If they upset your stomach so that you can't sleep, try taking them when you first get home from work, then hopefully you will rest easier. Maybe you should take them with chocolate cake too... I made a great one with a creamy chocolate/peanut butter frosting. It's decadent...

LOL...vitamins make you poop??? Heeheehee. Well, whether it's on chocolate cake or just taken plain, you better sleep with your window open. And never sleep with a candle burning...lol. You just might end up in my back yard...which is ok. There's plenty of cake left.

i always found that taking vitamins before bed made me hyper and unable to sleep. especially if you take b vitamins which are for energy. it is best to take your vitamins with a meal, the biggest meal of the day would be best. never take them on an empty stomach cause that will cause stomach upset.

Hi modstar! I also take my vitamins before I go to sleep! I have never thought about it before! I take it because that's when I take my other meds and that's when I remember to take it! I don't really know if it makes a difference or not! The only reason I take it then is because I am taking my blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds and my psych meds and that is the time that I will remember to take it! I feel that as long as I remember to put it into my system it will do the job!

I'm not sure. I know some vitamins need to be taken with other vitamins for example iron with vitamin c for better absorption etc... And some need to be taken with meals. I'm not an expert but I don't see the harm in taking them before going to sleep. You could check with a pharmacist or a health food store and obtain their opinion.

I agree with you. Vitamin pills may be harmful for the liver but i have no choice because i don't eat fruits on a regular basis.

What vitamins are you taking? Some need to be taken before a meal, some after, some on an empty stomach. Also, many vitamins make you have to urinate, so that may cause you to wake up in the middle of the night (disrupting your sleep) Also, vitamins should upset your tummy. Tell me which ones you are taking, that way I can better answer your question.

I usually take my vitamins before going to bed. Well, I think it is more effective for me this way. I think it depends on one's body's reaction on the time that you want to take the vitamins. If it is more effective for you in the morning then take it there if it is afternoon then do it on the afternoon.

I do not think it matters when it is taken as the vitamin does the body good whenever it is taken, if it is needed. However, some people take vitamins to give them a boost of energy and it would be pointless to take them on going to bed when you want to sleep. So I suppose it would matter as to the reason you took the vitamin. If you want extra energy then take them in the morning but if you are just making up for a deficient diet then any time will do. Personally I rarely take vitamins and try to rely on my diet giving me what I need. I have heard that taking pills can cause you to overdose on a vitamin and that can be dangerous.

I don't think that it could be less effective. I always have my children take their vitamins before going to sleep or at night time because i find that its easier on them rather than have them take it in the morning before going to school. On the contrary, I feel that it could be more effective because when we are sleeping, is in the process of healing or revitalizing itself and what could be more effective than have a ready supply of vitamins at that time.

I think they will be. When I was pregnant, I had to take my pre natals before bed. They caused me nauseas otherwise. My doctor recommended taking them before bed. If they are good enough to do that while pregnant, I don't see a reason you couldn't take them before bed.

It does not matter when you take a vitamin it is still effective for a certain period of time. If they give you an upset stomach would it not keep you awake if you take them too close to bed? Maybe take them when you get home and then let the trouble work out of your system before going to bed. That way you are not upset at work either. I cannot sleep if I have an upset stomach so I have to make sure that anything that bothers me is taken well before I sleep or I am up half the night waiting for it to pass.

Vitamins shouldn't make your stomach upset, however each of us are different. Now, I am no Dr. however I would consider taking them anytime "AFTER" a meal. I have had a few occasions whereby I would take particular vitamins on a very empty stomach and feel sick. However I realized by eating properly, and getting used to them I could feel a few things. A- actually FELT much better B- had more energy C- Immune to take anytime no problem. Hope this helps. www.powerofvitamins.com

I think that some vitamins are more effective when taken jsut before bedtime. I read somewhere that vitamins with iron in it are better taken towards bed time since these types of vitamins can make you feel drowsy. I guess you just have to ask your doctor when you should take your vitamins just to make sure that you are doing the right thing.

I normally take my vitamins in the morning and have not tried taking it during the night. But I seldom take much of supplements as I try to take balanced food. Vitamins do not come cheap nowadays and with balanced food I think it is not necessary to take supplements as we might only end up having expensive urine.

If you are having stomach problems, Its probably because the vitamin brand is good. All the problem is because of the antibodies in your body. You probably have been abusing your body with lots of toxic food Or lack of sleep. At night time you may take only vitamin b complex. All other vitamin tablets are best taken at day 2-3 hours after breakfast. As other mylotters suggested, increase your intake of water when you are on supplements. Also ensure that these vitamins are totally natural products. If you find that the vitamins are not from natural products, pls change the brand.
