As some of you may have noticed I was not online for lone Friday and off all day yesterday. I got a call right before noon Friday that my grandson was being admitted to the hospital, so I have to get things together and leave work and head to the hospital, which was 2 hours away. My grandson was dehydrated and they thought that he may have appendicitis. When I got there he had been put on IV drip and they ran some tests. We got results last night. The bloodwork showed severe dehydration so the doctor wanted to keep him for possibly the whole weekend. All other tests were normal. Saturday morning he ate a little breakfast and perked right up. They did more bloodwork and doctor came by mid afternoon. He let him go home! Yay! It was getting hard keeping the little tiger in bed with an IV going! My daughter brought an assortment of his favorite toys, a small Thomas the Tank Engine set with some of the cars, another small car, books, talking books, and his favorite monkey and blanket. It seems like we were constantly rotaing things to keep him occupied. It was also good to have cable TV. He loves to watch Zack and Cody on Disney. He is only 26 months old. Have you had a small one in the hospital and had to keep him in bed? What toys did you bring to entertain him/her with? How long were they in the hospital?

I think that having a small child or any child in a hospital is hard to deal with let alone trying to remember what to bring to keep them still and happy. I remember that when I was a kid they use to have a clown or two that would go to all the children in the children ward. They where just retired doctors or volunteers that are doctors that would check-up on the kids it see how they where doing and keep them entertained. Robin Williams played a movie like that. But, anyways I wish they would still do that. Also, for my daughter I found Lego's and blocks worked really well to keep her busy. Lincoln Logs and other building things. But, my daughter was about 7 when she was in the hospital. As for my son it was always his little radio. He liked the story tapes and the music. He would lay still listen and hold his little stuffed animal. He was 2 yrs. old at the time. So, I guess each child is different just pick their favorites and be there for them. And, that should be all they really need. Hope you grand son is doing a lot better now! **Peace and Love get's you through everything in Life**

Thanks Carpathian, he is doing much better. The doctor said he must of gotten a hold of a 24 hour virus to cause the vomiting and fever which led to the dehydration. Have a wonderful Sunday afternoon!

I had my son in the hospital at age 5 for emergency surgery. And then again a few months later for extensive surgery. The first time it was not difficult to keep him in bed, but the 2nd time, it was harder, until after surgery. Grandma and Grandpa, Aunts and Uncles brought all kinds of active toys that he could with on the floor the night before surgery. And they had him up and around the next day after surgery. So he really never had to be still much. Will keep your grandson in our prayers.

It's really hard to keep them still with IV's! One of us had to stay in the bed with him at all times. I'm glad he is better now and we had a short stay. I know I was exhausted when I got home the next afternoon! Thank you for the prayers! They certainly worked!

I hope the baby is okay. The poor little tike. Fortunately for me, my one and only child, now 32 years old has never been hospitalized. I don't think that I could take the stress.

I'm glad things w/ your grandson have improved kg-I know it's difficult to see your babies ill. I have your family in my prayers. As for having a little one in the hospital,my son is 19 now so the closest i have to a little one is my DM who was in the hospital last year in ICU - he didn't realize he was in the hospital b/c he was not coherent & he kept trying to get up w/ IV's & all plugged in-they had to strap him down w/ no no's |:(
