Have you ever helped out with an animal rescue situation?

I'm the webmaster and a board member of Northeast Llama Rescue and Barnyard Sanctuary, Inc, a non-profit organization in upstate New York. We've just picked up nineteen llamas whose owner's property was foreclosed on. The task of caring for these animals will be enormous, and you can read more about the rescue on our main website, http://redmaplefarm.net. We hope to be posting updates to our blog soon. Hopefully, time will allow! I was wondering how many MyLotters are involved in animal rescue, and have you ever undertaken a really big rescue? NELR has, many times, stepped up to the plate to save large numbers of animals, and it can be emotionally--and financially--exhausting. If so, I'd love to hear about your experiences.

I've done a lot of animal rescue. Mostly abused and neglected dogs. It's something that is both extremely rewarding and extremely heart breaking at the same time. I volunteered with an organization and an animal shelter, and have done raids and rehabilitation and foster care. And I've never forgotten a single animal that passed through my care. I'm happy to say that most were well rehabilitated and went on to loving homes that were just right for them. And getting letters and pictures of these animals happy and healthy with their new families is one of the greatest experiences in the world.

You're one of the earth-angels, my friend. Thank you for helping these sweet souls. I'd love to hear about some of the situations you remember, and some of your special success story memories, if you have time. And of course, the same for anyone else who wants to share.
