Why people are gooseflesh when they feel cold?

Its not really a cold thing, though usually you do feel a chill through your body when you get them. It happens when you are scared, or excited. Its your bodies fight or flight defense system. All animals have them. Pretty useless in humans, but think about porcupines. Same deal.
