One can not compare Linux with Windows. Linux is more used at server side because of its well knows stability and reliability. It also provides state of art of security which is a must have for the servers running in a data center. On desktop front tho Linux has started to catch up the pace and soon it might replace the mainstream operating systems on desktops and laptops. Take care.

Well I believe linux is an open source sofware heaven..Almost every software that you could find on windows that is chargeable ..you could find an open source solution for it in linux. Other than that,Linux offer is less resources hungry that windows...I could run it on a low end machine.

Hello, for this last couple year Linux is growing rapidly. Linux is often used for server application. But right now Linux has so many distro. Each distro also give us many choice, for example Ubuntu Desktop edition and Ubuntu Server Edition. Nowadays almost each distro provide its desktop edition and the visual is much better than the previous edition. If you want to try the distro i recommend you fedora core. It's already user friendly. And for install the software is easy using rpm package. If you want to try linux, just try it first by using VMware or dual boot. Cheers ^_^

both are totally different operating systems. if you are a normal user then there is nothing to do with linux. linux is primarily used for running some applications or servers.
