How often do you shine your shoes?

I've just bought a new pair of shoes a couple of weeks ago. If you have read some of my discussions, you would know my last pair is already five years old. So I would like this new pair to also reach five years so I would like to know how often you shine your shoes. Currently, I shine my shoes once a week. Is it too much or is it too little? Thanks!

I currently don't have any dress shoes. I left those back at my grandmother's house. I think they reminded me of working all day and my feet hurting. Even though I hadn't in a while before moving anyway, lol. I don't shine shoes, as I don't have shoes to shine. I don't think once a week is bad, but I don't know anything about shining shoes and how fast it might wear out the shoes. Did you do that before to your other pair? If so then your good to go! I would think!

In the early days of my older shoes, I shine it twice a week. But after some time, I just shined it once a week, then twice a month and then once a month.

I think shining your shoes once a week is quite alright but, if you often use them, say at work, whenever they look untidy, you might as well shine them a bit than wait for that particular day of the week when you actually clean them. It depends on usage after all, when you use it a lot, you might as well maintain it as much as possible. Then, there are ways to make shoes last longer on how you use them. Some people are not even aware of it but, their way of walking influences how long their shoes would last. (^_^ )

They say that you should 'roll' your steps. Heels first then round the outside part of your sole and not the inside.. well, I'm not really sure if that makes sense but, as much as possible, you could also look at how your shoes compare with each other. You might notice that your dominant foot would be using too much compared to the other one..

I am now conscious on my walking. Whenever I feel that my shoes is skidding too much, I would change my way of walking. I usually slouch in my walking, that's why.

I never shine my shoes. Could be one of the reasons they don't last that long! LOL However when my parents were still married my mom would shine my dad's shoes probably as often as you do yours, about once a week. Though it may have been more if they got dirty or scuffed.

Shining the shoes can be a reason for them to stay longer. The shoe polish somehow contain some protecting or repairing agents. I would like to make this new shoes last for another five years though I use them four days a week.

I dun think i ever shine my shoes because i dun wear them often.. hehe ^_^ The only shoes i will shine, are my army boots for i need to wear them every year.. lol =D Besides, i dun feel comfortable in shoes as it's too stiff and professional for someone like me.. I like to wear shoes that allows me to run and walk with ease.. Thus those leather shoes or whatever working shoes, are out for me.. hehe ^_^ I used to wear those shoes though, and i shined them by using those instant polish.. hehe ^_^ And i will only do that when i'm abotu to wear them on the day itself.. lol =D

I also use the instant polish. I try to polish my shoes the night before because I always wake up late and I won't be able to polish it in the mornings.

I always shine my shoe once a week. Usually I do it on a weekend when I have no work. It does not need to be shined always since in the office it does not easily get dirty. Though there are times when its rainy, I clean it up and shine it. But in most cases, its just once a week.

I usually shine my shoes during Thursdays because it is the last day that I will be wearing it. Fridays are wash dy and I will be wearing rubber shoes. It is only four days a week that I use my leather shoes. So I think once a week is enough too.

Well richie,I must admit I am just too lazy to shine my shoes regularly. In fact I would consider it an achievement even if I am able to shine my shoes once a week!!However at the same time I do believe that it is an important etiquette to do so!!Of course even though I know this I am loathe to not polish them until absolutely required.I am trying to change though as it is an important habit that should be cultivated for a professional like me.

Sometimes I would feel a little embarrassed when I notice my shoes are very dusty, especially when they're new. (Though it is not often that I look at my shoes.) I know we have to be presentable when at work and shoes are just part of it.

Like you I shine our shoes once a week or more if the weather is not that good and they get dirty or wet. Usually I have my shoes for a long time as well. One thing that I found, however, is that it is better to buy a better pair of shoes even if they are a bit more expensive than several pairs that won't last long at all and will hurt my feet.

Hi there richiem! I shine my leather shoes once a week. I can't imagine attending to my work with my shoes dirty. I would probably be very conscious while I deliver my lectures and my students staring at my dirty shoes. I also regularly clean my other shoes.

I don't have any "shine-able" shoes anymore. I go for rubber shoes and slippers when I go out nowadays. But back when I was still in school, I shine my shoes only when I don't think it's decent enough to wear anymore. Hehe. So that means twice a week, thrice, at most. I'm lazy, see. Hee hee. And I'm not very particular about shiny shoes either. So. Anyway, glad you brought yourself to purchase a new pair! We all deserve treats for ourselves once in a while

I don't shine my shoes because I wear flip flops and sandals or winter shoes that don't need to be shined...at least I don't think so. Is that just something men do? because I don't know if I have ever owned a pair of shoe sthat needed to be shined except maybe boots. If I did shine my shoes though I would probably do it once a week on sunday nights

I never shine my shoes. But I can't keep all my shoes very beautiful for very long time. I wear them very carefully, I don't run when I wear my favorite pairs of shoes, I seldom have a slight tumble or let people step over my shoes. So my shoes are also clean and beautiful. If the shoes are in light color, I would check if there is dirt on its surface when I came home, I will wipe it with clean cloth. It can help to keep shoes good.

I actually don't have anymore shoes that needs shoeshine. I only needed one when I was still studying. I was shining my shoes almost every single day because I want it real shiny lol. But now, I never do it anymore. I usually have high heels and sandals that does not need polishing. The last time I polished my shoes was seven years ago.

I polish my shoes every Sunday and brush them every morning before wearing them out.I just hate my shoes looking dull and dusty. However well you dress up the clumsy dirty foot wear can spoil the overall appearance and image of yours.

Hi richiem! I didn't know that you had a pair of shoes that had lasted five years. That is a really long time to have a pair of shoes. They must have been made really well! I don't think that you can shine your shoes too much if you were able to take that good care of a pair of shoes that lasted five years! How did you keep them from not wearing out on the heels and soles? I am lucky if I can keep my shoes for two years and that's with switching off to different pairs of shoes. The don't make shoes like they used to so that they last as long. And it is so hard to find a shoemaker to fix the heels like we used to.

I wear tewnnis shoes that don't need to be hined at all. The most I will do with them is to throw them in the wash about once a month or so.

I think there's no rule about the frequency :) Shining shoes in my mind is an attitude about life. Taking good care of shoes is taking good care of life. You can shine shoes whenever you think you should~
