When did you get your driving license?

China

Private cars are not new to most Chinese families. But our family dont have a car yet,and I dont have a driving license up to now though Im in my late twenties. In our country,we can only access to driving licenses till we're exactly 18.Not all young people learn to drive because they cant afford a car anyway. So,how old did you get your driving license? Is it popular for young people to get driving licenses in your country? And when are they allowed to learn driving? Thanks for your responding in advance.Have a good day.

When I was first learning to drive, a teenager could get a provisional license at age 15 1/2 allowing him or her to drive with a fully licensed driver in the front seat with the driver. When I went to get my driver's license, I failed the vision test (I was nearsighted), so I was not permitted to take the driving part of the test. I was told top come back after I got glasses. For various reasons, I didn't try again until after I was married. Guess I did alright, as I made a better score than my husband on both the written test and the driving test, and he had been driving for many years. He had to get another license because he had moved from the state of Kentucky to the state of Oklahoma where we lived at the time. All that occurred over 50 years ago. In the state where we currently live, a teenager can get a license that allows him to drive at age 15 with a licensed driver over 18 in the front seat. He can apply for a full license (with restrictions) at age 16. One restriction is that for the first 6 months, he can only carry as a passenger who is under age 18 if that person is a family member. He can take his younger brother to school but cannot pick up his neighbor who is in the same grade. In this part of the country, it is unusual for a teenager not to apply for a license as soon as he is eligible, because many cities have no public transportation, or what they have is woefully inadequate.

So private cars are much more popular than public transportation in many cities, right? The main reason I want to get a driving license is that I want to learn how to drive and have the right to drive.lol I think driving is a very useful skill.

In Texas, private cars are definitely more popular than public transportation. Cars can go wherever you want. Buses have to stick to their route. In all the cities in Texas with which I am familiar, public transportation is either inadequate or completely nonexistent. Thus, we go round and round. People take their private cars because there is inadequate bus service, but more routs will not be added because of lack of riders.

I got my learners permit when I was 16, my probationary permit when I was 18, and my full licence when I was 21. I got my first car when I was 19 (a second hand one, which I bought with money from my part time job). I upgraded to a newer second hand car when I was 23, but then I sold that when I was 25, as I was going overseas. Since getting back home 6 months ago, I haven't bothered to get a car, as I live close to the city now, so I just use public transport to get around.

A car is unnecessary fo me currently as my workplace is just 5mins walk from my home.Im not thinking about buying a car in a year or two.Its convenient to take the bus to the downtown in the daytime, but they dont carry on business at night.I have to take a taxi if I come back home late from downtown.

I got my learners when I was 16, and my license a few months later. It's becoming more common for people here to not bother getting their licenses, but most still do.

I am 30 and I still don't have my drivers license. I am in the process of going for it by next month. I hope that I get it!! In The United States, one can get their drivers license by 17 , I believe. And you can learn how to drive at 15 or 16 with a beginner's permit. Just as long as you have someone in the car with you that is 21 and older.

Do you mean you can drive on the highway with someone that is 21 or older in your car even without your driving licence but above 15?I guess anyone who doesnt possess a driving licence doesnt have the right to do so.

I hated having people in the neighborhood watch me practice driving, so I didn't get my license until I was 21. Now I consider myself the family driver.

Personally I have never had a Driver's license as I have chose to not drive. Plus with the cost of Gas, Car payment, Insurance, etc. I have just always had to rely on my husband getting me everywhere I need to go, or take public transportation as well. But around here in the US, they have places called Drivers License offices where you go in and take your Tests, and when you have passed all of them, and satisfy the other requirements they gladly then hand you your Drivers License as well.

well i got my learners when i was 16, i didn't want it but my parents made me go for the test. but here you still can't drive alone with a learners, you have to wait another year before getting the next step of your licence. but i waited years, i think i was 24 when i finally got my full licence. i just didn't care about it at first but then i needed a car to travel to college so i ended up needing my licence.

So you got your learners first at 16 and then got your full licence at 24.One need to wait another year for his next step of licence after he gets his learners. And he cant drive alone before he gets his full licence.I think we can only drive after we get our licence. But before that, its illegal to drive without your trainer.

It took me a while to get my drivers license. I had to take the test about 3 times. I finally decided to pay for a course and I scored the highest in the class not sure why I couldn't do that at the DMV. I went back to the DMV and passed with flying colors. I guess the first couple of times I was too nervous or something. I was 18 when I finally got it.

I got my license at 18 and my permit at 18. I have to say this that in my state 16 is when you can get your permit and apply for a license.

In the US, most states allow a teenager to get their permit at age fifteen-which lets them drive with an eighteen year old or older or a their parent/guardian. At sixteen you can get your license after you have gotten your permit and if you have driven enough hours on the road with another person. And when youre eighteen, you don't have to get your permit first you can get your license right away after you pass the written and road tests. I got mine when I was eighteen because I didn't feel like going through all the permit stuff since I wouldn't have a car to drive anyway and didn't really need to drive yet. I didn't get my own car until I was nineteen which is kind of rare around here. Most teenagers want to get their license as soon as possible and most have a cra after they get it.

I got my license when I was 18, although I went to get them when I was 16. I passed the written test with 100 but Mother's car had a light out,so we had to come back again. The next time I was able to go, it started raining and they quit giving the driving test that day before I could try. So, things just never got right for me to try again until I was 18 and it didn't really bother me. But teenagers can get their license here in America at the age of 16. Most kids do get them and they can then work.

I live in Australia and here driving age is 17. I got my licence at that age. I remember going for my driving test on Christmas Eve many, many years ago. I was warned that one of the examiners was particularly harsh and she happened to be a woman. So you wouldn't read about it, who do I get? You guessed it, the woman! I tried not to be too nervous and I did ok driving around as she instructed until she asked me to parallel park the car. I was so nervous I completely messed it up and the examiner had to grab the steering wheel which I knew was a big no no if you wanted to pass. I completed the exam feeling quite dejected because I knew as soon as the examiner touches the wheel you have failed. Well she must have been in the Christmas spirit because she turned to me and said, "Merry Christmas, enjoy your licence!" I couldn't believe it because this woman was renowned for being very hard to please. Talk about Divine Intervention!

The same thing here too. You are entitled to get a licence only after you have crossed your 18. As for me I got it some 10 years back. there was no fuss on my acquiring one as I met their criteria already.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and in that state, (and I think in all states in the United States), you can get your drivers license at the age of 16. So on the day I turned 15 1/2 I applied for and got my learners permit, which you can have as long as there is a licensed driver in the car, and on my 16th birthday I received my full drivers license and have been driving since then every day which was a loooong time ago! A lot of people get their license when they are 16, especially in certain states where it is almost a must to drive!
