I have 12 chickens in my house! That may sound funny, but I got them 3 weeks ago and they were 1 day old at the time. We always start them out in our house because we have 2 cats who live in our garage who would just love us for bringing them some special "treats" .
We have them in a blow up kiddie pool. When they get old enough to fly out over the top, we put mosquito netting over the top. It is really fun to watch them grow and develop individual personalities. Yes, chickens can have a personality. I have a blog about this if anyone is interested in seeing pictures and getting updates about their health, growth and development. You can check it out at http://chickensinmyhouse.blogspot.com
Leave me a comment so I will know how I am doing. Thanks

Wow... a very good idea for raising chickens in your backyard and inside your house.I'm surely when time comes, these chicks will grow and lay fresh eggs if it is hen or maybe a source of fresh and organic chicken meat. My only concern is the blown up mini child pool that you use to put the chicks, do the kiddie pool will not explode if they scratch the floor or pricked the wall? If you have much bigger yard, try to make a cage that will separate the Hen that lays egg to the rooster.

This is the second time we have used the kiddie pools. It has worked out very well. The chicks do not peck at the walls and the floor does not have air in it. Thanks for your concern about them. I do have a large yard, but it is too cool to put them outside yet. And we have cats who might be interested in a snack. The cats do well with the big chickens, but I fear the small ones would be vulnerable.

Oh I love chickens! Never had the chance to raise any. I grew up in NYC. Sometimes I wish I grew up on a farm so I get to take care of all the animals.
The eggs are pretty JA. Thanks for sharing the link for the pics. They are adorable.
