I had this discussion on another section so seeing what you all think of the rule changes that I heard on the news yesterday. The champion in 2009 will not be down to points its the number of wins. Now what do you think good or bad. Also what happens if say massa spins in the wet ends up in 17th place last season he would of pushed and tried to finish in the points position, even if he didnt have a chance to win the race. Now in 2009 points are effective irrelevant so what would be the point in massa continuing he may aswell turn his engine off and save the engine for the next race. I thought the new rules would make it exciting but after thought am not so sure now.

I agree that it is hard to tell if the new format will be an improvement, but I'm not initially for it. While I agree that wins should be given a premium, I also think consistency needs to be rewarded. I would have preferred a change in the points awarded system to give a larger award for winning as opposed to finishing 2nd and lower. But raw wins seems too simplistic to me. I would think close finishes in the standings like the past two seasons would be a good thing, isn't that what most sports series want?.. a finish to the end.. and not some team wrapping up the season with several races to go? With wins only I can imagine a scenario where this could easily happen. My interest would be far less if one driver had it locked up with two months to go. Sure there may be some years where the win tally will also go to the end, but it seems to me that close finishes would be more frequent based on points.

thnx for your reply, I was initially for it but once I thought about it I think its going to have a negative effect on F1. Theres no point finishing second if your going to finish second you may aswell take the leader off.
