Have you heard about the acetaminophen recall?

I heard it on the news. They said that the company who makes the acetaminophen products for store brands has discovered that the worn machines they use have caused small pieces of metal to be inside the pills. You can get more info on the fda.gov website. We found that the tablets in our medicine cabinet were among those recalled. They said this problem goes back 3 years. How much metal could people have ingested during that time? Should there be some kind of recourse on the company who made the tablets?

That is so scary. Good thing I only take alieve. I can not imagine how it could have been going on for 3 years. This company should be closely watched to see that they fix the problem. I don't know if anyone will want to buy their product again. I know I wouldn't.

I'm sure it's very widespread with stores like Walmart dispensing the tainted medicine. The fda website gave a number for people to call if they found they had the defective product. We haven't done it yet. They said they'd give further instructions when we call.

I heard about it from my wife this morning. It's a bit scary since we only use the generic brands, including while she was pregnant.

That's scary. They say no one should worry, but I hate to think of having put unknown foreign substances into my body. Hopefully your wife and baby experienced no bad effects from the defective meds. Thanks for responding.

That is scary. I hadn't heard about it at all. We use the generic brands as well, but live in Canada so ours should be ok.

I never heard of either the recall or this medicine but I have heard of similar instances in other products. The only one I was involved in myself was when I went to a bakery about 20 years ago and bought some fancy cakes and we found pieces of metal in the kake. Apparently a piece of a large dough machine had broken and the baker didn't notice until they had already sold most of the stock. That made me wonder about the cleaning procedures in that bakery and I never went back there. I would hope that even if there was some metal in those tablets it wouldn't be too harmful but of course it's not nice knowing that you have been taking pills with extra added ingredients. I think the company should reimburse everyone who bought those tablets and I'm sure they will get a visit from the health authorities to check out their factory. If everything else there turns out to be in order, I don't think suing them or making them pay huge fines would do anything other than making them go out of business or bankrupt, meaning lots of lost jobs and all that follows. On a lighter note, how is the iron count in your blood?

yikes! these people need to be held accountable for their actions. we do have some store-brand (shoprite, i think) tylenol in the house, but i only take motrin because tylenol doesn't work for me (yes, that's possible).
