When's the last time you made a promise and broke it?

It may be intentional or otherwise. I did. Just now. I made a promise to myself that when I go back here at myLot, I will just be answering discussions and not posting new ones like I used to the last time I was here. I made that promise because I want to increase the 400 something behind my name to a decent number. You can't do that fast if you'll just start new discussions. Anyway, here I am, breaking my promise to myself. Oh well. I guess promises are meant to be broken. But seriously, when was the last time that you made a promise and broke it?

Hey Kaye! It's alright! At least it's not a really bad promise that you are breaking and nobody is getting hurt in the process! I'm sorry to say it, but I break my own promises all the time too! I make promises for myself and then I turn around and break them too! It is only a bad thing if someone is going to get hurt by the broken promise. I really wish I could stick to them, but I just don't seem to be able to. I am working on it though!

I hope I can keep ALL my promises too, someday, when I am less crazy. hehehe. Yes, I agree that if the promise broken did not hurt anybody, then it's fine. it's only bad when you make a promise to others and they were expecting so much and you failed them. that's what's hard.

I rarely make promise. That too its rarest with others. But I do make some promises myself. I think most of the time I am able to keep that.

i guess i break a lot of promises already, and that is because i am so so so busy. sometimes i just say yes when someone is asking me or inviting me just for them to be not insisting to much. so most of the promise that i break are promises to people that i will be on their party or just to hang out with them. i am a single mom and i am really busy so sometimes even i want to go and attend parties or just hang out with friends i can not make myself available.

I don't think I've ever made a promise to anyone and broke it, I always try to keep my word. I did make one to myself and I broke it just now too, I promised myself that I would only get on the computer for 30 mins. because I have some things I need to do today, I need to go order refills for my medicines, and pick up some dog food, but an hour later I'm still sitting here at the computer, I'm not ready to go anywhere yet...lol. I guess I better get going before it gets later...

I very rarely break promises, because I try not to make them unless I'm absolutely sure that I can follow through. I started doing this about 20 years ago when I was living with my oldest sister and her family which included 3 small kids. I saw very early the weight the kids placed on the phrase, "I promise". So there were alot of times when it would have made things easy in the beginning to promise this and promise that, but everytime you break a promise I think they trust you a little less. So that's why I don't say it. Now people believe when i promise something, they know i will do whatever I have to do to deliver.

I rarely give a promise, kayedanda, because I must keep all promises/vows/etc. I follow the ancient belief that a person's word is their bond. And we only take two things with us to the grave: The Love we have for others and they have for us and Honour. Honour includes how we conduct ourselves, the company we keep, keeping our word, etc. For me the last time I broke my word or a better way to put it would be, I was released from my word, was in 1999. When my divorce papers were finalized.
