What your opinion regarding the Subic rape case?

I saw the news a couple of days ago and was shocked to know that The Subic rape victim, Nicole is now staying in the US. Her's lawyer said in the letter that, they "were tired of the case and do not want anymore to be bothered by it because 'there is no justice in the Philippines". Isn't justice served when Smith was imprisoned? Also in her sworn statement on March 17, 2009,she stated that she was no sure of being rape. Also there was theory that she was given a US visa for her and her family for exchange of her withdrawal for the case. There are news also that she was petitioned by her US military fiancee. I think something did happen between Nicole and Smith. Whether it's rape or not, that i'm not sure. Is Nicole leaving for the US suspicous. Definitely. Especially because when the news came out that she was already in US was the time when News came out the President Obama called GMA. What are your thoughts

I think that we should all just let her be and stop talking about her. I rarely listen to the local news anymore cause it is almost always depressing. If she is happy with her life and the things she have done with her life, then so be it. In the media stories, there are stories that will never be told and will never be disclosed and we shall never fully understand why persons do the things they do.

Just saw the news that a lot of the people who supported her then seems to be upset with her decision. Who can blame her I guess for not accepting the offer (if there really was such an offer). She could easily be anonymous there, living the normal life away from the prying eyes of the media.

I agree with that TV networks does not show the whole picture. The show only parts of story that would sensationlized the story. From just watching the news no one could really say that Nicole was raped or not. It's really up to watcher to judge. But her life during and after the case was unpleasant. I do understand that she wants to move on but of all the countries that she could go to, Why the US? Thanks for the response

I know that she wants to be left alone. But of all countries to escape to, why the US? I just hope she finds the peace that she is looking for there. Thanks for the response

I think the Subic rape case it too much sensationalized. Too much media hype, it doesn't need to be much talked about, instead put it in the trash can and forget it. The U-turning of statements by Nicole and stating some kind of amnesia telling the whole nation if she was rape or not, was not a news at all. The case was long time finished with all the sentence given and guilt proven. Padrino system came again in effect, as always thats why Nicole is in the US today, and she even have the gut and face to go to enemy territory hahahaha, what she did was degrading for her, now she is said to have no word of honor at all, she is a traitor, she embraced the enemy lovingly. Money talks here too, we may never know President Obama assured Gloria that Nicole will be provided well in the US if she turn back her first statements, which she did and look where she is now, gold digger, hehehehe. We have better issues here in our country to talk about, economy and jobs are more important to talk about instead of some gold digging girl having amnesia while enjoying being raped. not a good example of a fighting Filipina who can stand by her word.

I also agree that this case is too sensationalized. I think what really bothers me is she left for the US. She embraced America and turn her back on the Philippines. She turned her back on all those who were suppporting. But off course we don't know the whole story. Thanks for the response

Thanks for the comment King, I think money did have a way to change anyones mind in a split second. So let her be, its her decision to be like that. Whats important is that wes hould lear to be more careful to what we do. And fool ourselves at the end.

I also think that money change her mind but now that she has change her statement, isn't she required to return it if the case favors Smith? Thanks for the response

It is really sad to hear about that. The first time I hear about this rape case, I already know that she is after something else. Sometimes, statements can be deceiving but try to read between her words, it is very clear that she wasn't raped. The story clearly stated that she submitted herself to Smith that night. She ruined her and the life of other Filipina. It is very shameful. It is a very big disgrace to our country. I can experience this all the time. I deal with foreigners everyday and it is very hard to defend our country when they say that we are gold diggers. If it is just that easy to trash my nationality, I will do it but not. The blood of being a Filipina runs in my veins wherever I go. Filipinos are smart I agree but most of us use this in a very disgusting way. When are we going to change? We really don't know.

No races is perfect. It's just sad that action of a few affects the way foreigners view Filipinos as a whole. I agree with you that throwing once nationality is not an easy thing to do. I proud of being a Filipino and what no other nationality. Thanks for the response

I guess this girl was very intelligent and stupid at the same time..Why? She's stupid because she exposed herself in public saying she was raped and putting her name on the line just to get what? Shame? Err...NO! She was intelligent because she got what she wanted..It was all for money. Someone was behind this girl all this time. It may be true or not that she was raped but instead of standing and fighting for her dignity she ends up taking the bait. It's a real shame. Now pity for her was taken away because now she herself made a fool of herself. If I was in her position I would have them pay behind bars. It is not because we are Filipinos that foreign people can take us for granted. Filipinos fight for what they think is right and they fight for their name and their own. A shame this girl didn't.

That's true. She has lost the trust of the Filipino people. If she was indeed raped, I think she would fought for her dignity and wouldn't have broken the trust of the Filipino people. Thanks for the response

something happened between the two of them, i just seriously doubt it was rape... they probably were too drunk to think, i mean i think they were seen by the other americans, according to the testimonies... i really find it hard to sympathize with women who gets too drunk and flirts... it just spells trouble... and i do think it was hyped, because a foreigner was involved... sorry, i do support protection for women and children, it's just that, i'm not feeling this

I do agree with you. Since she is a Filipina and a women, there is some part of me that wants to believe her. But with everthing that she has done lately, It makes me doubt her credibility. Its too much of a coincidence. Her getting a US visa, leaving for the US and changing of her testimony says a lot. Thanks for the response

I was very disappointed with how the whole thing turned out. Nicole made a fool out of those people who stood by her, especially those who have been victims of rape themselves. I just feel revolted that she gave up that easily. And for what? For her and her own family's comfort?! There's no need for rocket science or conspiracy theorists, it's so easy to figure out: "She is one selfish hypocrite." I personally think she brought shame to the Philippines and I think am not alone in this opinion.

that is the sad part of this story. She gave a lot of people hope. People who were abused. And just like that the she just took it away without thinking about the consequence. Even though she is a Filipina, its hard not to recent her actions. Thanks for the response

I am deeply saddened by this news. Before I admired her for her standing out in the open accusing the American soldier of raping her. The fight went on until the court sided with her. Now that she is in the US already she has changed her mind about it and tries to revoke what she said in courts back then. That is really sad about selling her credibility to be able to get what she wants in the end getting a US visa and some money perhaps from the accused. I hope she gets fair treatment in the country where she once accused her of raping her.

I felt sorry for her when I first heard the news about the case. But with all the news about her new statement, I could not help but wonder if this is what she has planned all along. Regarding the fair treatment, I hope she does get it from the people there. Thanks for the response

If there's a filipino not worth fighting for, that's no other than Nicole.
