GM Diet

Have you heard of this diet program. For those who dont know what GM Diet is - It is a 7 day diet plan that was developed by the General Motors for its employees. I have started it two times but have usually given it up on Day 3. Has anyone had any success with it? If yes, whats the secret of holding on. Another issue for following this diet is that I am a vegetarian and I changed the non-vegetarian component of the diet with some of the vegetarian options but I am not sure about the calorie content and how it fits into the plan. I am overweight and would really like to get back to a healthy weight.

I have never heard of this diet. Want to go into more details so we can get a handle on what you are talking about?

:) People who have tried it say that the first three days are the most difficult ones to stick to. Once you pass that stage, you will hang on till the end. Well, speaking for myself, the day of raw and boiled vegetables makes me want to gobble up a few wafers!!

I could never do it! After eating all fruits, I can see loosing weight the first day, but I would think that after you eat again, you will gain it back. The veggie day would kill me!!

While I have never tried the GM Diet, I am well aware that anything labeled "Diet" is doomed to fail. If a person makes lifestyle changes and begins to eat much more healthy, the weight stabilization naturally follows. Good luck with the weight loss. You will add good years to your life and decrease chances of heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.

Well the panic to lose weight with my latest cholestrol report. Hence the diet frenzy! But what you say is right. Anything extreme is awful. I was feeling so weak after the first two days that people around me panicked and asked me to stop the diet regime.

Hmm...not good. Just make sure you are getting plenty of fruit and veggies. Whole grains, oatmeal and a touch of protein. You will do fine. I have faith in your ability to bring yourself to the healthy state you want to be in.

I havent heard of this diet. I actually have had some limited sucess with low carb type diets and that is mostly what I am doing now to try to lose weight. I guess there are some diets that would problably be better than these but the low carb regimes seem to work the best for me and they are diets that are easy to use.

Thanks for your response. The lost about 3lbs in the first day itself but these diet things are so difficult to follow or stick to! Will have to look up the low carb regimes.

The GM Diet focuses on limiting your calorie intake - which is a very good way of losing weight (just eat less!). I've tried the Negative Calorie Soup diet that is often undertaken by patients that are about to undergo surgery (some need to lose fat, especially if they are overweight). Since you're a vegetarian, I think that it's a good alternative instead of the GM Diet program :) http://beingoyen.blogspot.com/2008/07/negative-calorie-soup-recipe.html here are the basics. Thanks for the response on my discussion!
