Why do more intelligent people seem to enjoy life less?

From what I've seen, the more intelligent someone is, the less they seem to enjoy life and the more pointless everyday things seem to be. Does anyone agree or care to explain why it might be?

Well...I think that's only partially true. It depends on your state of mind. Personally, I'm depressed, I know how just about everything in my life works, including things I can't control and many of my bodily aches and pains, and other things among those... I have to say that life is exceptionally dull, but nothing is really pointless. It's just, well, dull. I guess it would be, though, once you've already got life figured out. :\

i dont think that people who are super smart think that way.. i mean, maybe the world is less interesting to them but not life.. there are a lot of things to experience..and the more you know about the world, the more you want to experience things that makes it go round.. :D well that is just an opinion.. :D

I once taught a happy go lucky sort of little girl. She was always smiling and often laughed. She was so popular and everyone wanted to be her friend. I would say she had well below average intelligence. Even when she came in the school with a very injured face because she had fallen off her bike at the weekend she still seemed happy. another time I taught two very clever boys that were in Year 1. They needed Year 3 and 4 Maths work the year that I taught them. They rarely smiled and were fairly quiet. They didn't seem to enjoy life all that much compared to the girl I mentioned. A different time a boy seemed like a real goody and he kept asking if he could come and help in the staff room rather than play outside at break times. Some really intelligent people study course after course until they are really well qualified. Just because a man has a degree, masters and doctorate doesn't mean he would make a good teacher. A lady with a third class degree because she spent far too much time helping the guides might make an excellent teacher. The man might be within his own thoughts and the lady might be friendly and down to earth but nowhere near as intelligent.

It's not that they don't enjoy life, it's just that their idea of enjoyment is different than yours. They find enjoyment out of things you do not. Unfortunately, people often misinterpret this, and they think these people look down on everyone else. So, they do enjoy life. Just a little differently than you do.
