Buses in my local area

I was shocked to find out that my local bus company will soon be stopping a few of its services. There will no longer be buses to some towns and villages and none of them have train stations. People living there that don't drive cars will be stuck at home. Taxis cost a lot so most people won't be able to afford them. This change will affect students going to the college in my local town and old aged people. I feel worried that due to the recession more and more bus services will be stopped. My local train station is thirty minute walk if I walk really fast. However the train line serves a limited number of destinations. It makes me more determined than ever to pass my driving test and get my car on the road. What do you think about the bus company stopping a few of its services? Has your local town being affected in any way by the recession? Is public transport good in your local area?

public transport - I think the public transport is good in my city.
I think it's very bad that the bus company stops a few of its services. Not everybody has a car, so it will somewhat have a bad effect on the people who don't have a car. It is quite inconvenient. Here the public transportation is very convenient. There are many buses lines. The buses and subway is still the main transportation for most people. I think the transportation is very good in my city. You can just go to everywhere by the public transport. I love China

yes, it's really inconvenient. especially to the people lived in the big city. I have to get up earlier to get to the company on time during the Olympic games in beijing, china last year because it was limited on the public traffic at that time.

If you live out of Bangkok here the transport system is deplorable. Most Thai families have at least one motorcyclke they share to get around. If the all need it at the one time, well, they all get on. It's very dangerous, but they have little option. Motorbike taxis are plentifel, but I nearly have a heart attack every time I get on one. They are very dangerous, and have no respect for road laws, or users. I'm dreading selling my car, when I'll have to use this mode of transport for a few weeks.

Hi maxine dear! Oh that would be really terrible for a lot of commuters in your area. I do agree with you that this will pose much difficulty for a lot of people who don't drive or have no cars. Taxis really cost a lot even here in our country. However, public transportation is really not difficult here. We have a lot of buses that travels in main national road, jeepneys (smaller public vehicle here that could carry 14-20 passengers) and taxis that travel within the city roads. We also have tricycles (like a motorcycle cab) and pedicabs (like a bicycle cab) that can take you anywhere within the subdivision or can travel within the city but with restrictions. So there is a wide choice of public transportation accessibility here within my area. Take care and have a great day! loveslot..faith

I am sorry to hear this message. Public transport is good and getting better in my city. For the coming world expo in 2010, the municipality is improving public transportation, and the target is to reach destination in the city proper by two lines. some bus companies are organizing short distance traval to reach balance. The service stop is the last thing they should do. When losing reputation, it is hard to resume.

It's been that way in my village for years, my friend. One learns to cope. I very rarely take taxis... in fact a bike is a good thing to have. lol. That's the fittest way to travel... think of all that fresh air and exercise... so much more enjoyable than a stuffy bus. We still have a few buses during the weekdays and Saturdays which go into town, but the last one is six o'clock, so only useable by homecomers... shops are shut anyway. The nearest cashpoint is three miles away but there is a bus out to that about four times a day, as well as into town. You adjust, I guess; plan your life around it. There's never much traffic in my quiet little street, and if I want to go out in the evening, I usually find somebody who is going that way, who'll give me a lift, or I go out with a group from the village so we can share the expense of a taxi. Brightest Blessings, my friend.

When Bus corporation stops its services it is the common people that suffer a lot. How can they expect them to walk all the distance? It happens in a few towns and I agree with what you have said. The corporation should imagine themselvex in the shoes of the sufferers to realise this!

Bus services in Trinidad are not very good to say the least. You have to wait sometimes an hour to get a bus and they move slowly on these narrow, traffic filled roads. Before now we didn't even have half the busses we do have now. I guess I can fully empathise.

Public transportation sucks in my area. As of March 30th there will be a lot of buses eliminated. Many routes are being switched around, and the buses that they will have only go so far now. I depend on public transportation a lot because I don't have a car. i have been looking for a job, and the eliminating of the buses and stops makes it even harder to find a job than it already was. The prices are also going up from $2.75 to $3.75 starting March 30th.

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear about the bus schedule cutbacks. The same thing is happening in my area. Like you, I'm a student and I don't have a driver's license, so I rely almost entirely on public transportation. In general, I prefer it this way, but sometimes it's really inconvenient when schedules don't work out. 5 years ago, there were almost 50% more scheduled buses in my city. I think that you're right, the recession is definitely impacting public works projects, and public transport is probably one of the first areas to get budget cuts. It's unfortunate, because I wish this country would value public transportation more... with Joe Biden as VP and his support of trains in Delaware, I'm hoping that trains get more funding, but we'll see.

I think public transportation is one of the best way a person can travel. I am sorry to hear that buses are stopping services. In our places there are public transportation and private transportation. Lots of people depends on buses for traveling. I can't imagine no buses in our places. I really think public transportation is very good in local area.

I live in an urban area and here the buses are full. More people are using public transportation, as they can no longer afford to have their own vehicle. It is sad that they are stopping some of the routes in your area.

Oh...that's a sad one, i'm sorry to hear what you are going through. I live in a place where there are a lot of buses and jeepneys and they all cause heavy traffic and yet it seems it is still not enough for the daily volume of commuters! The buses here are almost always full and with the aisle crowded with standing passengers. With this picture i think nobody here will cut down on the number of public transport. Hi maximax8! Just pass that driving test and get on the road with your new car soon!
