I really just want to stay home

I don't know what it is lately but when it's time to go to work I would rather do just about anything but put on street clothes and leave the house. Part of it is that I cannot just wear anything so I can't be as comfortable as I am at home. Part of it is that I am usually in the middle of something I don't want to leave to go to work. Part of it is just simply having to go to work. The sad part is that I only work part-time so it's not as painful as having some drag you down 9 to 5 but I can think of a whole lot of other things I would rather be doing right now. The weather is gorgeous and of course that doesn't help. It's always harder to go in on nice days when you just want to lie under a tree someplace. At least Friday is almost here, right?

Hi Canellita, (cute name, do you know what it means in Spanish? It cinnamon!! without the double ll/Canelita) This sounds like one of two things...depression, (I hope not) and/or unhappiness at work...what type of work do you do? I learned long ago that being content/happy at what you do for a living is of the upmost importance to your good health and well being. Check yourself out and I sincerely hope that you will be all right:-) ~G~

The Spanish word for cinnamon is canela. I teach part time at a charter school.

It's good to spend some time at home and live a normal life without spending all your time at work. I'm working part-time too.

Do you like your job? Because it may be what you are actually doing for a job that is bringing you down. I had a job last year that nearly made me ill where I hated the job so much. It got to the point that my boyfriend had to walk me to the train station to make sure I went to work and even then I would be nearly crying. So maybe you need a whole new job.

No, it's not the job; I work with kids. I just wasn't in the mood to get out of my sweats and comfortable home and go out.

I get like that sometimes, where I don't want to leave the house. Sometimes on a weekend I can blow the whole weekend away cleaning the house or sorting through the clutter to try and organize it. The best part is when the weather is nice and I can get some yard work done. My kids can mess up my yard in nano seconds, I like it to look tidy.

Kids can mess up anything in a nano second, lol! Just thinking about kids can make me tired! Those few hours a week I spend at the school can really wear me out!

It sounds like you may have "Spring Fever." Try giving yourself a pep talk that your job is fun, you love to have that handy pay check. You are blessed to have a job. How great it is to be a dedicated employee. Think about how excited you were when you the landed the job originally and all was new and exciting. I hope this helps. Happy "Spring Fever!"

I always thought of it as the crazy behavior men exhibit at spring time when they get all flirty and crazy and just plain stupid.

Good question. I always thought it made you feel like you just want to goof off and not be responsible. That may qualify as frisky, I have not idea.

It's nice to know I'm not th eonly one. I work eight to five and it's a real drag. I look forward so so much to just being home that I feel like I'm becoming a homebody, but I don't care, I nver get to spend anytime just sitting down doing what I want anymore. I really miss college.

Do you think it could have something to do with the approach of Spring? All the students are antsy right now and I'm sure all the teachers are looking forward to their summer breaks. Maybe we are just stuck on that cycle from when we used to get a long break from responsibility and obligation.

Possibly...I am always like this though. Plus I'm not in school. But yeah, it is definitely true. Both of my parents are teachers and they say the hardest time to get srudents motivated is the weeks leading up to spring break, and then the weeks leading to the end of the year are bad too. Keep going you're almost there, and you'll be glad you're done and made it. Also, take some time for yourself, whether that's spending a day or afternoon outside soaking up the newness of spring or being at home doing something just for you. Do something for you!

Well, I would really like to stay home, especially if the weather is pretty. There are times that I could be going out with friends, but usually can't find it to bring myself to do anything besides stay at home, because I work a lot of hours and hardly ever at home. Some days I am gone longer than I am at home and those make for long days. Yeah, this is Friday and I am still at work, thankfully I only have about 30 minutes to go....

I stayed home all day Friday and tried to tackle email from that other website :-) I had to opt out of the newbie group because it was just way too much. I knew I was going out Friday evening and had stuff Saturday so I was in no hurry to go anyplace. I came home for a bit to get my camera and check email and I'm about to head back out.

During the winter months I am okay with going to work but once the sun comes up and it starts getting warmer I like to go outside a lot and I work in a hardware store so I don't get to do much. I tend to just go outside and check for carts a lot but it doesn't help because I'm stuck there until the sun goes down and later. :( I love the sun.

I have days like that, too. Sometimes I just want to enjoy the quiet of my home when I am alone. This time of year it is easier to get like that. Maybe you need to give in and take a day for yourself if you can?

I'll get more time at home than I want soon. After the 31st I won't teach again until April 17! It's part time so that means no pay.

Working from 9 to 5? That's really very relaxing. In most of my jobs, working hours usually from 7 to 5 or 8 to 6, with a shorter day on Friday. Companies here generally let employees work the maximum hours allowed under the employment act, which is 44 working hours. So lunch time and any tea-break is legally excluded from the 44 hours quotas. Hard to find a job that allows staff to work only 9 to 5. Even when the normal working hours is from 8 to 6, bosses like to see us stay a bit later, and not rush off on the dot. Wake up at 6:45 am, leave home at 7:15 am, reach office before 8 am, leave office by 7 pm (if possible), reach home at 7:45 pm, dinner, then clean up the dirty utensils, go for a 45 minutes evening walk, shower take another one and a half hour. By now 9:15 pm, finally a bit of free time before bedtime at 10:45 pm. Just enough time to write a short article, do a bit of reading or just rest and relax. 24 hours is not enough!

That is very fortunate. Over here, the Employment Act doesn't protect office worker earnings more than 2k per month. Most companies do not pay OT to staff earning more than 2k per month for overtime work. That 2k figure is really ridiculous, since more than half the working class here earns more than 2k. Sometimes I wonder what's use of Employment Act. And many bosses expect their staff to come earlier than them and work later than them. Even though legally the staff can leave the office at 6 pm sharp, the boss will make use of performance appraisal to "punish" the staff. So most people tend to stay a bit longer. In some industries, like the one I'm in, working overnight is quite common. Sometimes office staff also work overnight. The longest work day I ever had was from 7 am to 11 pm. The official working hour was 7:30 am to 4:30 am. But the company required all transport operators to reach the premises before 7 am. So we were forced to reach office at that ridiculous hour. I used to joke that even the Sun "works" shorter hours than us.

That is interesting. Most bosses will arrive before and leave after here unless they are completely confident they can trust their employees. The overtime doesn't have anything to do with salaries it is based on the maximum number of hours. I once had a part-time job where they would adjust the maximum amount of hours per week the part-time employees could work so anything above that (20+) would be considered overtime. It was the only good thing about that job.

The average work week here in the U.S. is 40 hours. After that the law requires you to be paid overtime though not all jobs do so. Most jobs are 8 hour days but some can be 12, 14, 16 or longer depending on the type of job. Business hours are generally between 8 am and 6 pm depending on the type of company but some days can begin at 7:30 (0r earlier) if a person works in a hospital or supermarket or coffeehouse or school. Some places stay open late and some are open 7 days.

I feel like this especially being pregnant. That and I would love to stay at home and spend time with my daughter. Luckly it is friday and I have the weekend off. But I know that you mean. I like wearing sweats or pajamas around the house plus you are always more comfortable at home. You can relax and watch TV. It makes you rest better becuase you know you are home.

why live your house? What's outside? It's pretty much the same thing, the same people doing the same things, nothing changes. I'd rather just sleep all day but that's impossible :P

I know how you feel. When my alarm goes off in the morning, the last thing I want to do is get out of bed and go to work. I always feel emotionally drained. When I'm getting up on the weekends and I know I don't have to go to work, it's completely different. The way I try and cope with these feelings is visualizing the day going by fast and being able to come home and do something I enjoy. I focus on getting to do that one thing all day while I'm working and it gives me motivation to get through the day and something to look forward to.

The weather really affects me in this way. So hard to want to go do responsible things when it is beautiful outside. (Spring fever.) It is good to have something that you don't want to leave just to go to work... gives you motivation to just get through the day in order to get home to it. I'm wondering, if the thing you are in the middle of has anything to do with your favorite yarns. Hee

I would love to stay home all the time too! I only work part time as well, but I really hate to leave my kids and house and go and work for someone else. I guess that's life, though! I also have to wear a uniform, but I am thankful that it is not uncomfortable or unflattering. I'm lucky in that at least. Have a great day at home!

I am very greatful to have a job. There are alot of people out there who are looking and wanting a job right now, but I feel the way you to do. When its time for me to wake up and get ready for work, I just cant stand the thought of going to work. When I actually get there and open the door I wish it was 5:00 already. I know its because I dont like my job. I like the work I do but not where I work and I know that is why I dread coming to work. With the everything the way it is right now I don't want to look for another job cause this one is stable but its really getting to me. It is harder when the weather is nice outside. I like to be outside so i sucks just to have to look out the window and not be out there. I too am glad friday is here and I just have a couple of more hours to go until I can go home

I wish Mylot can stay with us forever. This can be a good thing to do when I suddently decide to stop working. I too want to stay at home and earn some money as well. Well, I don't want to get rich. I just want a simple, yet quality life. I want to have a house by the beach and create mylot discussions the whole day. Of course that includes updating my blog. It's so nice to really be your own boss; wake up at the hour I feel like. I can sleep the whole day if I want to. I don't know I think I'm having a midlife crisis right now. grrr
