Kittens are born with closed eyes, like puppies. They open between a week and 10 days, closer to 10 days in my observation. I had Oliver at a week and he didn't open them until 10 days and was also given a litter of 10 day old kittens, and only some of their eyes were open, they were all open the next day. And cats, as a predator, tend to sleep about 18 hours out of 24, tho only deeply about half that - but they are conserving their energy for the hunt, even when the food bowl is full, they are the most recently domesticated animal - well, except fot the guinea pig....
