I visited my childhood home today ...

I've been waiting for ages for England to have Google Street View - and I often check, in the hope it's been upgraded. Well, today I was SO excited to find London has been done - and Leeds, where I was born and spent my early childhood. I was actually able to stand in front of my first home, and compare it with a photograph I have, which was taken 45 years ago. The house has barely changed. My Dad's plot across the road is a little more overgrown than when he was growing our spuds there - but the house, apart from no longer having a fence and gate, is pretty much as it was. It was a lovely nostalgic journey to be able to 'virtually' walk up and down that street again, as I last saw the house when I was six years old. I'm hoping they do Cornwall soon, as it's the only chance I'm going to have of walking the streets of Polperro (a dream of mine). Is YOUR home on Google Street View yet - or just on Google Earth? Technology is a wonderful thing ... and GSV is one of my very favourite innovations!

Hey guybrush! How cool is that? I have never even thought to try to look for the first houses that I lived in! What an interesting idea! That must have been so much fun taking a virtual tour and seeing what has changed and what has stayed the same! I'll be for you it brought back lovely memories! I think I will check it out myself! I would like to thank you for the wonderful idea! I will let you know how I made out!

It was really exciting, Opal - and I hope you are able to find the areas you are interested in. They are constantly updating, and intending to have the whole world covered eventually.

How cool, Guybrush! I tried to find the addresses of a couple of childhood homes when first read this, but without luck. I'm going to keep trying, though, because you've made me so curious!

They are updating it all the time, and London was only put online a couple of days ago. Australia has had GSV for over a year now, and lots of the USA is done. You can also visit the streets of Paris and Rome. Keep trying - they'll get around to your neighbourhoods soon!

I loved walking the streets of Paris too, Minnie - and I hope you'll soon be able to stand outside your home. I think it's so exciting. When Australia first came online, my son was wondering why his car wasn't parked in our driveway (our car was!), so he enjoyed checking out all the beach carparks and his friends' houses to see whether it was parked there. As yet, he hasn't found it!

It must have been exciting for you to be able to see your first home, and your Dad's plot across the road! Lovely memories! Technology is amasing! I was born in Scotland, and would love to see my old house - do you know if Scotland has GSV?

Hello Abbey - yes, they've started on Scotland, and Glasgow has been done, along with some of the surrounds. I just had a bit of a walk in the city - and it's brilliant! Do have a look - you'll really enjoy yourself. If you didn't live in Glasgow, I'm sure they'll be adding your town soon.

Lucky you! One of my daughters just came for a visit, and she thought it was funny we were still living in the same house we bought when we got married, and that she can visit her childhood home and still sleep in the same room she slept in when she was brought home from the hospital! My husband's childhood home (a farmhouse) was burnt down when he was 10 - so he can never go back. It's nice if you can, that's for sure!

HI guybrush as the distance in Malta are very short, I do pass from the same street that I lived there as a kid, every now and then. I bought my parents house and I lived in it for a few years until I moved to a new home. I had decorated the house and my parents and relatives were surprised with the home improvements. It seems that the couple who bought my house have enjoyed our finishing touches tastes and they are improvign on it.
