to spank or not to spank

well i have 19 month old and what i do is if i tell her more than once to stop doing something and she continues to do it, I will count down from 5 and tell her to stop. If that doesnt help then i will give her a pop on the hand. My parents did it to me and eventually i learned that if i did a certain thing then i would get popped so i stopped doing it.

I myself was only spanked once. I know I deserved more but that's all I got. I do not think I could spank my child if I ever have any.

I do think that it varies from child to child and also depends on the situation. A swat on the rear is sometimes needed. Not a beating of course, just a swat or two.
