Social Security Disibility question

So I got a call last week saying my son's application for disibility was approved. All they needed was a copy of the lease on my car and one month worth of pay stubs. I got all that together and took it to the SS office yesterday. When I gave the worker the papers they had requested she said I would "hear from them in about 10 days." Hear from them about what? If the claim has already been approved what else is there? I'm really anxious to get all this taken care of because my son will have to go to a special clinic once a month that is a 4 hour drive. There's no way we can afford that without his disibility. My question to you is if you are currently recieving, or have ever recieved SS disibility, how long after your claim was approved did you have to wait for the checks to start arriving?
