I had planted some beans and peas in my earthbox yesterdayand the big dog ate my plants and dug the dirt out of the box. So now I have it sitting up on cinderblocks where she can't dig in it. I am also having to make a border for my low beds with cnders to keep her out of my squash and other veggies. Fortunatly she doesn't mess with the tators??!!!
Do you have a dog that is a menace to your garden?

I had a dog abouit 10 years ago when I lived in Atlanta. I also had a one acre garden. After the dog began digging up the first planting, I put in a radio fence and got her an electric collar. The dog never went within 5 feet of the garden after that. I swear by the electronic fences.

Well, I already responded to this discussion once, but the cat pulled the cable out of the wall, and I went off line when I hit POST.
We're watching our favourite show Sue Thomas FB-EYE about an FBI agent who is deaf, and has a service dog. In the last scene a guy put his latte and hot dog on the ground while he did something. Levi, the dog, drank the latte and ate the hot dog. LOL Hey, dogs will be dogs. My cat just tried to drink my coffee.

No, our dog is a tiny yorkie/chihuahua mix who hasn't shown any desire to dig. This is a blessing. We also don't have a garden. We live in an apartment, so we can't plant a garden per se. We were talking today about going to home depot and getting the materials to plant a few things on the patio, some tomatoes, zucchini and perhaps cucumbers.

Vegitables do very well in containers and you should give it a try. Homegrown veggies are always so much tastier and healthier than store bought. Our little dog is a mini doxie and he digs too but then that is what a doxie was bred to do to dig and go after badgers so can't really blame him for what is instinct. Now the big dog she is an Akita and they were bred to be protectors and guardians of royalty so she has no excuse for her bad behavior lol.

Well, in her defense...my bother in law had an akita until they lost her at the ripe young age of 13. She would often do things that were totally out of character of the breed. But she did it because she was following the lead of their other dog!

That is funny. Unfortunatly Shilo is still not off the hook cause they are never in the backyard together cause Corkie goes under the fence and takes off. He won't stay in the yard where he belongs so he is taken out in the front yard alone to do his business. He doesn't get the oppurtunity to dig anymore lol.

The dogs are in their own yard, so they can't get in the garden. If I plant one. But the plants in the house are well nibbled. Sigh. I have to make very, very sure not to buy anything that's poisonous, since it's in danger of being eaten. I shudder to think what would happen. Sigh.
When I do plant a garden, they'll be as much a danger as the darn wildlife. Between the deer, possums, raccoons and other buggers that help themselves to what is here, I don't figure a garden will give anything to us. Grr!!
