Healthy Freelancing

It's difficult to be healthy as a freelancer because you have to sit in your office chair for several hours at a time. There are some things that I have been trying to do in order to help myself be healthier. Here is what I've been doing: 1. I have invested in a comfortable chair. 2. I use a white board for my to do lists so that I have to stand up sometimes and stretch. 3. I have a colorful office with plants and pictures so that my attitude is more upbeat. 4. I keep my work area clean because they say clutter makes you less productive. 5. I make sure that my keyboard and monitor are properly positioned so as not to induce unneeded stress on my body. What else can you suggest to help me here?

I'm not the most healthiest person in the world. LoL. But, because my 'office' is in my home I like to open up the windows to let in some of the fresh breeze. I give myself a couple of breaks. I have a children's swingset in my back yard and I like to swing on that a little bit. I also keep a hefty supply of fruit and veggies around me so that I don't zone out in front of the computer with twinkies and dingdongs in my mouth. Haha.

It is so easy to eat junk food all day long. I am lucky as I don't really like to snack. I do love to keep the windows open whenever possible though.

You should get up and walk around every thirty minutes. Ideally, look out the window - especially at grass or leaves, as they force the eyes to re-focus a lot, thus counteracting the fixed-distance stare of a screen. I wrote a thing a while back about computer chairs (I learned a lot from a couple of ergonomists!): http://www.helium.com/items/1261720-choosing-a-computer-chair

I'm lucky to have 1 of those great ergonomic chairs but I didn't know about how to re-focus my eyes. I'll have to try that more often since I have a window right next to my desk.
