What do you wear when going to church?

I always make sure that I wear dresses during our Sunday Eucharistic Celebrations (Mass), I don't wear dress or outfit there that I do every single day, I treat that day specially. I dress up, wear my special jewelries (not too much), wear light make-up and do as I'd do on my birthday and special celebrations. It blows my mind sometimes that people could go to church wearing outfits like they're going for a stroll in the mall, or even on the beach! Whew. Respect is the key, if you can't respect God, who would respect you?? How'd you feel if you see friends wearing inappropriate dress and you invited them in your wedding? Whew! So, what do you wear when going to church?

do you think god is looking for your respect??? maybe i missed it in the bible but i don't think anywhere in it it says that you must be dressed to the nines when entering the house of the lord!!! what if you are homeless does that mean you can't go to church? what boggles my mind is people who go to church and think it is a fashion show. jesus could not care less if you were wearing a fantastic dress and great jewelry or a bloody potato sack

Church is a very good place to meet people, flirting is part of meeting people. Just because they flirt in church does not mean they have no respect for God. And I agree, the way you are dressed in church is a non issue, modesty is a social issue, not a religious one. Adam and Eve, didn't wear clothes till after they disobeyed God after all.

You are right, respect is the key. Proper attire is subjective.. It's the attitude which really matters. If you would dress appropriately when visiting a friend, or the president of your country, why not when visiting God? For middle class people our dress may not be as expensive or stylish than that of the rich but we must not choose also the shabbiest attire. It's not how expensive the clothes are, but whether if it is the appropriate one. We don't wear shorts no matter if it is very much more expensive than slacks, nor a backless/tube tops no matter if we look great in it and it's a branded one. Our Music Ministry have uniforms whenever we sing in masses so choosing what to wear is not really a problem. On other occassions I follow my rule of thumb: I dress what I would'nt be embarrassed of nor cause a scandal.

I wear what I would wear, any other day of the week. Church to me is not so different then visiting a friends house. God, in my opinion is not so much worried about what I wear when I visit, the representation of his home, on earth, then he is about the way in which I live my life.

You have a point in there. But still there are appropriate and inappropriate clothes for visiting friends, right? Thanks for dropping by.

From a social modesty stand point yes. I suppose there is what is appropriate and what is not appropriate, depending on your class, and culture. But that is a personal choice one makes for themselves, and in my opinion has absolutely no religious merit.

The church that I attend is relaxed and there isn't anyone who gets dressed up to go. The only time people at my church get dressed up, is at Easter and Christmas. My personal opinion is that God cares more about who we are than what we wear. When I go to church, I'm normally in jeans and a tank top with a sweater thrown on.
