Is Watchmen really good or is the graphic novel better?

I've been reading mixed reviews, so I want to know the general consensus here in MyLot. What do you think of Watchmen? Is it just pure hype or is there a good movie underneath the popularity? I think it's one of the sleeper hits of 2009 and I believe it looks great in a technical point of view.

haven't seen the movie yet. And as with most things made from books or graphic novels or whatever i am a little worried to see it. I loved the graphic novel i just hope the movie is as good,
