The story of Adam and Eve (and the whole creation story as told in the Bible) is NOT factual. It is symbolic and mythical and just one of hundreds of creation myths told by many different peoples around the world. Early peoples needed answers to why and how, just as we do today. They did not have the benefit of scientific research as we do today, so they made up stories to show how they thought it might have been. What is interesting about the creation stories in the Bible (there are two recorded) is that they have been shown by science to be correct in essence, if not in detail, as regards the general order of creation. Religion is man's attempt to explain the origin and reason for humanity and to acknowledge the existence of something supernatural that creates and orders our lives and provides for us. Most societies have a belief in an organisation or being who is unseen and who is greater than humans - a Creator. That belief is based on the reasoning that the world (and the Universe) was created the way it was with a purpose and by an intelligence and that that power is worthy of worship. I 'believe in' different religions as I 'believe in' the history of mankind and the development of language, for example. What is remarkable, perhaps, is that different peoples all over the world have developed complex theories which all involve a supernatural being or beings and that nearly all religions involve some kind of communication with that supernatural world. It is that universal but essentially individual experience of meaningful communication with the supernatural that makes me believe that 'religion' (in general) is not something to be disregarded but that no individual religion gives us a true and complete picture of the reality of what we call 'God'.

Wonderfully explained.I beleive in different religions but what I dont beleive is their different beliefs.Every religion should have one common thing/theory/belief like serving mankind , worshipping GOD & so on.But why different GODs?

All true religions (there are false ones, of course) see one God ... or rather, aspects of the same God - some see two or more aspects as separate but inseparable gods. You perhaps already know the story of the blind men and the elephant: http://www.noogenesis.com/pineapple/blind_men_elephant.html

Because all do not 'know' that there was only one Adam and Eve. Nor do we all 'know' they existed at all. Different religions are usually created when when people do not agree with the already existing one(s).

If they all come under one branch then the world will be without war , the people will always leave in peace. There will be no question of hatred. This the people of different religion dont want to happen as they want to impart the preaching of their own religion & want to convert each & everyone to their respective religions.

Good question, I'm not sure really. Perhaps people don't want to be labelled as something they don't agree with. Some religions are often in conflict with eachother, I think there would be too much disagreement between them to be considered the same religion, under one branch.

Adam and Eve is just a story. It isn't really true. As far as so many religions,It would be a bigger mess with only one. They would be running the government and maybe playing God as well. Since no religion is 100 per cent right wouldn't only one religion lead people in the wrong direction? Perhaps, it is the disagreement between us all that will lead to the real truth. If people choose to hate and war over religion, it is only a sign of deeper problems. Religion is the excuse!
