Does having a small group of friends better than a large group of friends?

I tend to keep a pretty small number of friends, but I do have lots of acquaintances. In my opinion, having a small number of friends is much better because it's low maintenance. You don't have to keep tabs on each one of them, instead you get to nurture deeper and more meaningful relationships. I think with a large group of friends, you lose all of that... and for what? Just so you can say you have more friends than what your fingers can count?
I don't think so.
So, what are your opinions on this? Do we really need a lot of friends or are keeping only a few people close much better?
I want to know the general consensus here in MyLot.

Hello inkyuboz! We are alike. I have also small number of friends but I have some acquaintances. I even have only 2 friends which I consider as close. I never tried to be in a large number of groups and I don't think it would ever fit me.

Its not a question of small number of friends or greater number of friends. Its the true friends you should look for. When you need them they should help you out.
I dont understand what you mean by low maintenance. Why do you want to keep a tab on your friends?hahaha.Even if you have a lot of friends they automatically will come down coz' only some of them adjust to your wavelength.
