Derry, it is really hard to save money these days. I used to have money taken directly out of my pay and put in savings but no longer have that option. I did put some money in the bank in an account that I can't touch. I saved up all of my change until I got to the amount needed to open that account. I work hard to keep my electricity bill low and it actually dropped $26 this month. I use low wattage bulbs, never leave lights on, and unplug appliances when I am not using them. I also shop at thrift stores whenever possible for things I need around the house and clothing. When supermarkets have canned goods that I use regularly on sale I stock up. What is your best tip?

much the same as you I always go to charity shops and buy essential things when they are on offer .. I think my best save has been not eating or drinking while out , always waiting till i get home or taking a snack and drink with me . Well done with your electric thats really thrifty *

These times are tough, but I have found a few ways to save that a little bit. I get part of my paycheck depoisted in my savings account before I get it. It was hard when I fist started this, but now, I dont even realize that it is gone. We also have a piggy bank that has one of those counter things in the lid that we drop all of our extra change in to. It never seems like much, but watching the total go up, you realize that the change really does add up fast.
