Hic-cup cure anyone?

I had hic-cups earlier today, and used a hic-cup cure that someone told me about to get rid of them. You take a deep breath, hold it, put a finger in each ear, and keep holding your breath as long as you can - not so long that you pass out! My partner has a different remedy. He has a glass of water, and sips it from the other side of the glass - I can't do it without getting water all down my front, and usually start giggling, which doesn't help! The other thing that many people try is to give someone a fright - This is very unpopular, and not a good idea, because you could cause a heart attack. Does anyone have a particular way of getting rid of hic-cups?

I have tried your method before by holding the breath but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have another method is take 11 sips of water slowly. I don't know why it should be 11 sips, but it works for certain times. Lol. I learned this from someone else too. No harm trying because it won't cause you to pass out or a heart attack anyways. After all,I still think drinking as plenty water as possible is the best way.

My method is to hold your breath while you have got a finger stuck in each ear. It doesn't work for me if I don't have a finger stuck in my ear!

OK, I read the other ones and I have actually done the drinking from the other side of the cup. It worked for me. My cousin is a nurse and the doctor she worked for told her a hiccup cure when she had some broken ribs from an accident. Take a baggie and put about 1 cup of water in it. Seal the top. Lay down on your back and bite a hole in the corner of the bag. Drink all the water out of the bag. Sit up immediately after you finish and you will burp. Your hiccups will be gone.

Drinking form the other side of the glass is a popular one. My mom always had us to stand on one foot right or left with the other out in front of us and suck on an ice cube until it melted. It manages to provide a lot of entertainmnt but not sure how effective it was for the hic-cups

Take two fingers on each hand and apply pressure just above your eyebrows. Apply a lot of pessue and count to 30 slowly. I am not sure why or how it works, but I saw it on a reality medical show, and I tried it myself, and it really does work. I used to work with a girl who would get the hiccups, and when she did, they were loud and didn't go away easily. Once I learned this method, I tried it on her, and it worked instantly.

I only drink water when I have hiccups and kept drinking until it is gone. I mean drink water straight so that the next hiccup will be blocked. That is the only way I resolve it. My baby boy is six months old and he usually has hiccups if he did not burp after drinking milk. What I do is to let him drink water in his bottle until the hiccup is blocked. It is very effective because as you have noticed the gap between one hiccup and the next one is in just few seconds. So just drink water until it goes away. A weird habit I found done by my mother and other relatives on the mother and father side is that they dip a sewing thread in water and they put it in baby's forehead. According to them it solves the problem. I tried that after my son drank water and it is effective but I still wonder if it is because of the water of because of the thread. I have heard before that putting thread into babies forehead can really cure or stop hiccups and that is scientifically proven but I forgot the explanation of that and had never done any research yet. I am about to sleep now. Maybe I will further research about that tomorrow. Hope your hiccup is gone now.

I have never heard of putting a wet thread on babies' foreheads before. I wonder if it also works for adults.

Who is upside down - the cup or you? Can't quite get that, unless you mean the drinking from the other side of the cup method!

My great-grandfather showed me a technique that he got from the native americans. You take you first 2 fingers and push down on your throat between your collar bones. It seems to only work when someone does it for you. Everytime someone got them, I would do it for them and it worked every single time. People even asked if i was a witchdoctor. LOL. but, you really have to know how to do it, because if you don't do it right you can cause other problems. Another method someone told me is to make yourself burp. Hiccups are usually caused by air in the stomach and if you burp to get the air out, there's no more hiccups. I've found it works the majority of the time. so does taking deep breaths, holding each one in for about 30 seconds. There are so many oldwives methods, but I think the majority is psychological. You subconsciously tell your brain that this is going to work, and so it does.

My hiccup cure is to hold my breath and then swallow some of my own saliva. I think it works 100% of the time.

One cure is kinda like the one you already tried . You drink a glass of water while someone holds your ears , you keep drinking the whole glass without taking a breath . Sometimes just holding your breath works for me , or a spoonfull of sugar. If nothing else works try having someone scare ya !

If you have hic-cups then take a glass of water an drink it. If it doesn't work then take a spoon of sugar and eat it. I think these are basic ways to cure it. Best of luck Hope it will stop after reading this answer, I am damn sure about it. Bye

I usually shocked my friends whenever they have hiccups. I would tell them shocking news and when they are shocked they open their eyes wide and mouth ajar. This will automatically erase their hiccups. It works.

What helps me it so light a match, then drop in a glass of water. Then drink the water (not the match LOL). My friend says to drink a cup of water while someone else holds their hands over your ears. This always make me laugh.

My mother always told us to get a spoon full of sugar and eat it then take a drink of water, seems to help us. My son likes that idea, and often fakes the second batch to get another spoon full of sugar, lol...
