the case of the mysterious evaporating war protesters

Last I checked, there were still two wars going on. Though we reached an agreament with the Iraq government last year on a partial withdrawl, we will still be leaving 50,000 troops there for quite a while. We are going to be increasing troops in Afghanistan by 17,000 to start, possibly more, along with a greater more intense combat effort. So I guess what I'm really wondering, is where did all the war protesters disapear to? Code Pink is now protesting AIG bonuses and I haven't heard a peep from Cindy Sheehan since the Party Conventions. In fact, since the inaugurations, I haven't seen a war protests anywhere. Even the little group of 4 who used to have a mini Iraq/Afghanistan war protests every sundey outside our little town's post office every sunday are suddenly and conspicuously absent.
Have all these people decided that those wars are no longer a bad thing? Have they been fooled in to thinking we suddenly pulled up our tents in january and brought our troops home and said "Ok, war's over"? Or have they all just mysteriously evaporated in a bizzare epidemic outbreak or alien abduction?
*shrug*
Strange world.

Um...what're you talking about? People've been protesting this month. There was a protest in washington to mark Iraq's anniversy...there've been more protests this week. Afghanistan's been included.
People've been talking about the "I disagree with ALL wars" bumper stickers on the blogs I frequent, lately.
I think it's the mainstream again...and maybe the alternative's getting a bit preoccupied.
I reckon some of the major voices might be suspiciously absent, sure, but I still see the regular activists about.

Hello x...oh my goodness... I hadn't even realized that these people were absent from the stage... or are they still protesting but the media won't cover them anymore? Why have they stopped protesting the war or were they merely protesting the administration? Now that they have an administration which promised hope and change they don't have to protest anything because life is just grand? Thanks for pointing this out.

I think they all went back to those caves they were hiding in when Clinton went to war in Bosnia illegally after congress voted against it. People protested these wars largely because the media told them to. Now that the media is busy doing fluff pieces on Obama, the anti-war crowd has forgotten about their previous mission.

Money not war are on a lot of people's minds... sad isn't it?
Lucky for my hippy self there is lovely woman and her family and friends that go to the court house every day after work and school and stand with their drums and signs. And when I'm in Hillsdale, I join them.
They bring me hope that people still care.

We have them here still in Minnesota. We have a group in Burnsville who is on the corner at least once a weekend, sometimes a bit less due to weather lol, and a group that is on one of the overpasses going down town to Minneapolis.

you have tapped into we hate Bush crowd. Now that their guy is running things no protest. How about when he decided to send 17,000 troops to Afghanistan, there was protest in the street, colleges called of classes and no was attended class. Hippies stopped traffic in major city intersections. Missed that because it did not happen they are so transparent a fake it is pathetic.

Its the same old double standard. The media and protestors make a lot of noise when liberals aren't in control but once they are in they will be forgiven almost anything by these groups. Some of the these same protestors would be out in droves if a Republican had made the joke that Obame made about Special Olympics but since it was Obama there were no protests and the whole thing is now gone from the media which would not have been the case if it had been a Republican.

They believe in 'change' and have been told that 'change' will take time. Except the timetable looks eerily similar to the Bush timetable. They were happy with the announcement that we'll start withdrawal and packed up. Most of those war protesters had their beef with the war in Iraq. In fact, some of them seem to have forgotten that there was still one going on in Afghanistan. Maybe because it's not that much in the media as Iraq was and still is. Don't you know? Obama fixes everything. He just has to hold one of his great speeches;)
