Is a 50% approval rating breathing down Obama's neck?

For the first time since Obama was inaugerated, his approval rating might be headed into the 50% neighborhood. Come on Obama! It took Prs. Bush 4 whole years to fall to 50%. In fairness, other polls still have Obama in the 60s, but the way the numbers seem to be falling, Obama is going to be hard pressed to beat W's first 100 day rating of 62%. http://www.gallup.com/poll/113923/History-Foretells-Obama-First-Job-Approval-Rating.aspx

you have some bad info. most presidents start out at around 50% approval rating, just as bush's did. it only went up with 9/11 and then plummeted again in less than 2 years. http://www.hist.umn.edu/~ruggles/Approval.htm from 2004 until 2008 bush rarely got over a 50% approval rating..

I looked at the chart, and according to it, ted was pretty much right, though it shows a steady delcine, it does show his approval rating doesn't hit 50% till about 4 years in to his presidency,

It is a bad comparrison. Bush and the last congress tried to justify his constitutional trampling with weak excuses and fear mongering. Obama is trying to do it by.....hmmm...wait a minute....never mind. they're pretty much 2 different heads on the same snake.

My comment was more a jest to ParaTed, who has been known to often "poo poo" Obama supporters when they compare him to Bush. One example... http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1939225.aspx

shows how careful one has to be in electing a president. You cannot do it because you hate the last one or because you want one to be non-white as in the case of many who elected Obama. It was not because they hated the Republican party or Bush's policies, many elected him because Bush was not flamboyant enough as was Clinton, Kennedy, and other Democrats. Boredom and practicality does not sit well with some people. And those who are elected because they fit the mold often go downward. When you do not expect much from a president, you do not have such high expectations.

Well, well, it's not surprising. Looks like many of his supporters expected swift and overnight change and are now disappointed;) Even if you don't compare it to Bush. It's a significant drop from his pre- and directly after inauguration approval ratings. The shine is wearing off quickly. It's just same old, same old in Washington. And worse...

I don't read a huge amount into it. Mostly I just think the Obama mystique is wearing off.. which can only be a good thing.
