I heard from a friend that they were giving away suger gliders as prizes at a fair. This makes me mad. Anyone who has a sugar glider probably knows that they are high maintnence pets. If you don't know how to care for one then it is easy to accidentally kill one. Their are certain foods they can't eat. Their is a certain diet they have to be on. They must have thier water changed everyday or they will not drink it. They need a pouch and cage. This is just scratching the surface of sugar glider care.
You know how you tell your kids that having a dog is a lot of responsiblity and it is their job to make sure it is taken care of. Times that by 10 for the care of a sugar glider. That is why they should not be given out as prizes. I don't know! I just felt like I needed to vent about this. I think this is very sad;-(

I know what your saying. I was wanting to get one for a family pet. I did research first and glad i did. I found out all kinds of details that no one told me. So i changed my mind. My mom and sister wanted one so i told them what i found. My mom changed her mind. My sister thinks that what i told her is not true so im sure she still wants one. I think it shouldn't just be handed to anyone. At the fair especially. I know the prices for these little critters are pricey but at a fair is not a good place to be handing them out as a prize. Especially if the owners dont know what they are getting themselves into.

I am glad you decided to look into and do your research before getting a sugar glider. They are a lot of work and responsiblity. My husband has a pair and it is routine for him. He has to care for them a certain way every day. He loves them. I say make sure they are the pet for you before getting one because you could always get over your head if you are not careful. Thanks for sharing;-)

I work with a lady whose mom has a sugar glider and she talks about all the care that it requires and I can't imagine that they would give them out as pets at the fair. I would find out and I would assume that there is some kind of law about what they can give as prizes. I believe I would report this if possible.
I thought that they gave away goldfish!
