Do you think the day will come when the federal government fails? Or when the states get fed up and get rid of the federal government.

i am not a us citizen or based but since the philippines is closely related to your country i would say the federal failure will never occur in your country since in the course of history you have stand by your federal government and have devloped it and other big countries envy that form of government...I think maybe there issues that your government cannot address to but i think it is in minimal stage wherein it cannot cause any big failure that will led to the collapse of that form of government. But if there will be the time that you will get rid to this maybe under a strong military dictatorship-***i know you will not allow that****

what will probably happen is the states will end up siezing back control of it, clearing out the clutter and reforming it propperly as a subserviant agent again, like it was suposed to be. the states here are actualy suposed to have most of the power.

When the majority of people start relying solely on the federal government rather than themselves and their God given abilities and responsibilities, then I believe it will fail. And I'm sorry to say that seems to be where we are headed. Seeing how most states have behaved in the current climate, I don't see them getting rid of the federal government.

I think the people will force the states to stand up to the Federal Government. Tom Dashel is a good example. He represent a small rural state and when defeated where does he live, in Washington DC. He takes a high paying job doing what I don't know, but waiting for a democrat administration to get back into the power structure. Look at the people that President Obama has appointed, they all have Washington ties and little contact with the real people of this country. The polls show that the people in this country are basically conservative. By that I mean they favor a traditional family, a fair tax system, respect for the law, majority rule with respect for minority rights. These are some of the values they endorse. You see it some state now. In Minnesota there were 6 Republican in the state legislature that voted of override the governors veto and increase the budget. Five of the six were defeated by the local citizens before the general election. The people forced the defeat of the immigration bill, the Dubai Ports Deal and they are now being heard on the spending in Washington. The politicians better remember the election of 2006 and 2008. Big government Republicans were defeated by conservative Democrats, many of who have voted against the spending bills. I think it will be the people that will force a change at the local level and the state level which will then force the Federal Government to change.

Wow, a whole bunch of new folks comming in lately. Fisrt, welcome to mylot. What I see happening, is enough states grow a set of balls and stand up to it. The soviergnty resolutions being worked on in a number of states seek to do exactly that and draw a line in the sand with a number of trigger points. What we could well see happen is a disloving of the federal government and a rforming of it under the constitution, the way it was intended. Many people tend to theink of the federal government as the be all/end all/ We were a country long before we had a truely functioning federal government however. The states decided they needed a body, an agent if you will, to conduct their common and international affairs. SO they drew up a constract and created this agent. It was designed to be subserviant to the states and to operate under a limited set of functions. We have just let it get to far out of those functions and in effect, have let the servant become the master.

I believe at some point the states are going to be forced to get rid of the Federal Government. That is if they still have the power at that time. If they don't get on the ball and do it pretty soon they won't have the power to do it. I don't know why the states are not running this country anyway. They already have everything in place to do it and our government could be a lot more up close and personal then. The states know a lot more about what the people need and how to provide it for them than the Feds do. In most cases the Federal government couldn't care less about what the people need. A Governor of any state can do a lot better for their people than any President can anyway. Art

I wanted to reply to this discussion but ended up making a thread of my own called, "What Will Fix This Country?" It's a direct response to yours.
