I am expected to do all the work, but it is never recognized.

It is very sad thing for me in office. They always want me to do bulk of work. Even show unnecessary reasons to let me do all. The comparison factor also comes. They will show example of another guy and say . look he is doing the same for others, But he is given all the opportunities, he was sent Onsite for long, being given all opportunities. He is praised always. I am given nothing, but expected to do all work. They also start giving me instructions. Plus I am never sent onsite or anywhere.

It sounds as if, subha12, as though you are being psychologically pressured into quitting your job. This is one of the many many tactics management is taught to cause someone to quit because they do not want to fire the person for a variety of legal and/or financial reasons. You are in a sticky situation. You may either ride it out and hope you outlast the people above you making your job and life miserable. Or you may just find another job then quit this one. Good luck subha12! *hugs*

Hi subha, please understand onething. Whenever you are expecting something from someone and not received the same you are getting disappointed. If you are not expect anything and doing your work honestly you will never feel sad. Also one more thing, being a PSU bank officer I am working even in all the sundays and holidays for the last three months because of some conversion of the data and others and was applauded and praise my higher ups and others, but when promotion chance had come my name was omitted whereas the persons who contributed not even 20 % of my work was given. Though they were telling bad about that persons they were promoted due to some high level recommendations. Still I was not worried, because I have heard about such incidents earlier also. In fact they were showing their sadness in me for not getting promotion. But this year I got, because I contributed to the maximum and they could not drop me. Anyhow whenever you are working more the benefit to you is more than that of the institution, it is my experience.

May be still you are getting promotion in next time. But it is the same situation for last 2.5 yrs here. Nor I am recognized, nor given anything. Nothing works here other than back stabbing and network with higher ranked people.

Your case is not an isolated one. I am sure in private secotr it is less, whereas in public sector or government enterprises it is much more and we can see person who are not at all worthy is given all the benefits. Be relaxed and enjoy the life. These all are part and parcel of the drama known as life.

It may have to do with your personality. Sometimes quiet and efficient worker just do not get recognised, the boss assumes that she is happy with her work and not aiming for promotion. And when in department meeting, the person who talks a lot tend to give better impression, at least show interest. While the quiet one who speaks when asks give boss the impression that she is not interested in the discussion at all. So if you are the quiet type, try to speak out, and try to have some good suggestions in meetings even when you are not asked to speak.

I am quiet and also efficient. But few people are taking unduly advantage. They are doing this with me, As I can't do backstabbing like them of others.

Oh no, don't ever think of backstabbing them. You should not harbour this thought and be happy at the same time. You can only take positive action. In any department meetings or any work meetings that you go to, look at the agenda, study the minutes of the previous meetings, prepare for the meeting, go with fresh ideas and speak out. Even if you proposes some unworkable systems, the fact that you dare to speak out shows your interest in the job. And if there is any company function, volunteer to help out. Even if just pouring drinks, do so cheerfully and speak easily to everyone. Just introduce yourself and ask the name and department of the colleague. Make yourself known The quiet and efficient employee always get bypass for promotion. Because the boss of your boss of your boss who has the power to decide promotion doesn't know you at all.

If you still want to stay there. I guess you better love what you're doing. Just dont do it because it was instructed to you. You do it because you believe that it will make you a better person at the end. Successful people are those who have been at the bottom. Be optimistic. god bless.

This is a miserable working condition and I think you really need to put your foot down now. They have now started to take you for granted and you must not take it anymore now. You are so capable and your talent I think will better flourish somewhere else. However, having said this, we all think that grass is greener on the other side. Its better to look changeover and from day 1 bell the cat.

Did you request a copy of your job duties? That is the very first thing one should do when hired for a job. If you do not ask for this, they will most definitely take advantage of you, mark my word. Make it crystal clear that you want a copy, and also make it crystal clear that people need to start doing their fair share of work around there, that you are swamped and can not get your own work done. If your immediate supervisor refuses to do anything about it, go over his or her head, to HIS or HER supervisor. Keep going higher and higher if you have to. In the mean time, I would look for a job elsewhere because ti obviously sounds like you are burnt out from the excessive workload. Always, always, always get a copy of your job description, and if someone asks you to do something that is not on that job description, you have a right to say, "I do not mind helping out this one time, but please do not make a habit of it. I have my own work to do, and this is not on my job description, and it is keeping me from being productive in my department." Or you can say, "I really would love to help you, but I am unable to at this moment." You do not owe them an explanation as to why, unless it is a supervisor. A third option would be to see if they would not mind helping you with one of your tasks - a fair trade. If they decline helping you, then you decline helping them; fair is fair.

It is really sad that you not not treated well in the office. There is one very important word in the organization that is learn to say no to people. You have to show them what you are and what you can do for them. Prove your worth and make them realize the same. With dirty politics setting in the company, you need to be really active and smart. Happy Mylotting!!!

Sometimes we really felt sad thinking that administration or administrators are unfair. The best thing to do however is to do our best and show them we can make what others can. I was also puzzled before in sales why those who have made more sales were the one being given all the oppurtunities instead of those who were not able to make sales. Yes all the praises and all the recognitions but of course they did a good job, I understand. We feel these top sellers are always welcome, they are always being accomodated, always sweet to the big bosses. We took it however as a challenge. Every incentive given to these top sellers motivate us to strive more and be on top as well. When we recieve all of those incentives, recognitions, praises, special accomodations and everything, I just fully understand everything. So, just be patient and be positive,do your best and soon you'll realize, It's nice to be on top and getting all the reward and incentives for being one.

This is a common occurrence on many jobs. Depending on how much experience you have it can work to your advantage when looking for another job. Do you think it is worth it to continue to work there? If you are miserable perhaps you should look for something else.

I know how you feel about it friend. Same thing happened to me also. I am depromoted from a salary of Rs 12,000 to Rs 9,000 while some others were promoted from Rs 12,000 to Rs 14,000. There are people in the world who are very smart and knows what to talk and what to talk. Some people are always favorite of the top people. Some people get paid more for less work they do. Some people gets everything in their life fame, money, popularity, etc. While some others work hard and gets nothing just frustration in their life. You know what I am feeling I am feeling very down at this moment due to the depromotion. I feel like a joker right now in the office.

Congrats Subha for reaching 15000 posts. I could understand your feelings, and same is the problem with my boss also, even though i work in an Governmental organization. Extract work to the fullest from those who do work, and give promotion to those whom they liked so, is the trend every where. Cheers Subha, I have got myself accustomed to these kind of strolls in my office, and oflate enjoying life as it comes. Take care friend and have a good day. Saivenkat

If it is that big of an issue and it seems to me like it is then you might want to start looking elsewhere for employment. I had a similar experience when I first started working during my college days. I was putting in several hours doing many things for many people and they would always take the credit for my work. It wasn't long beofre I left that job and went elsewhere.

Maybe it's the right for you to leave them and look for another job. are they giving you benefits or bonuses for your hard work? or maybe the guy had the same experience as you are having recently before he got to work on another site. be patient and I am sure you will get your turn and be recognized. have a great day.

This thing won't happen like as if like accident and it is a good time for you to search for a new opportunity. This is a good sign for you to explore the outside world and have yourself prepare for this moment. Happy Mylotting. :0)

Well this happens sometimes even to me. Sometimes our efforts go without recognition and appreciation. This will make one demotivate and loose interest in work. Employees should be recognized and organizations should make this point.
