When ever i go to a new city or a new part of Delhi which i havent visited before, i make it a point to ask for the address from the man on street when i reach there or when i feel lost. This not only save time and energy but makes finding the address lot easier. Do u stop and ask for directions or do u find the place where you want to go yourself?

Yes I usually ask directions when I am new in a certain place to make my traveling easier. I am choosy on whom to ask directions because I don't want to be fooled by bad guys. I make sure that I knew a bit about the place but just uncertain on small details so that in case something happens to me then at least I know where to go. I agree that it saves time and energy but also be very careful when asking because some people take advantage of visitors in their place.

Hi there agrim94. I always ask for directions also. Its difficult to go into a new place and still think that i can manage alone. So i make it a point to ask every time. The funny part was that i asked once because i didn't know where to go only to find out that what I'm looking was already in front of me.

oh yes, if I need some direction I will ask people, there is no sense to continue running around in circles if some body can actually help get to where you are going faster.

Of course I do. Asking for directions is the best way to go to your destination the soonest possible time without going around looking for the location for hours.

I've heard that men are not keen on asking for directions which intrigues me because 'if you don't ask you don't get' so it seems to me the most logical and time saving thing to do. Unfortunately there are dishonest people out there who may purposely steer you in the wrong direction. We were in Italy once and we asked a passer by directions to the train station; I should have known he was not going to be helpful because he pointed to a road with a smirk on his face and it did turn out to be the wrong way! I always look up the map and if I have any problems I will ask for directions.

Yes there are lots of men who think it is not manly to ask for directions and it really angers me when someone does it and waste the time esp when u are on a quick trip. Yes there are some persons who would deliberately send you in wrong direction but the honest persons far outnumber these kind of persons and usually the locals are helpful to the outsiders.

If I feel like I am already lost, I do look for someone to ask directions from. This is better than keep on driving because for I know, I might get farther and farther. But whenever it is my husband driving and it seems that we are already lost, he does not want to ask for direction. This is a common argument for us. I think most men do not want to ask for help for direction. Most male friends I know are like that, same with my husband.

Yes thats true most males dont like asking for direction.. i dont know why males ( most not me) take it that if they ask for directions it would be a blot on their manhood and they wont be considered man and would make whole of family suffer and waste time by going in circles and would have to ask after 2 hours. I can never understand this.

While I would say it is okay to ask people over a direction but chances are high of danger considering that there are dishonest and people who can make a fool of you otherwise you would end up as victim and such like, it might be case to case basis but it actually does happen. The best thing to do when you are in strange place is to study the place carefully, have a map with you or when you know someone whom you can rely or trust with in that place, call them for direction. I would always do that to myself keeping a map on or asking a friend from that place to seek help for direction. My point here is just take extra care.

When I have a plan to go visit some new places, I make it a point to research about the place, look for certain key parts of that place to visit, where and when the hotels are open. How much does it cost for you to check in on those hotels, look for interesting sites to see and where you can feel an empty tummy. If I have all those information with me, then I proceed to that place, and look for my choosen place to stay. yes, you can't really look everything from a brochure or internet site of a place, so its good also to walk around and ask for directions about other good places to visit aside from those mentioned on the brochures you obtained. Asking for directions from a local of that place is far more good information to get regarding the place itself. They know more and can really serve as a guide whenever you feel lost. But sometimes I am an adventurer, I like to discover and look for places on my own. The drawback would be you will surely get lost or waste more time and energy, but soothingly fun in the end, it like competing in Amazing Race show. In general, it doesn't really matter if you ask somebody about directions or find places your self as long as you are careful and alert and have fun that's how adventure on a vacation is.

Thanks agmamayo for the response. I really like your thinking and how you do it. yes we should always get prepared and do our homework before starting the engine of car if going to a new place. it is very important. and ofcourse it is better to be prepared than be lost and u never know when u get lost there might not be anyone telling u directions .
