Flipping Houses

I've become hooked with watching all these shows where they flip houses. I've seen Flip This House, Flip That House, and Property Ladder. Are there any others?
I've always thought about doing this, but my construction skills and knowledge is pretty limited.
It's amazing to see some of these flippers basically clueless as to what will make the house sell. Some don't do enough research, some focus too much on putting into the house things THEY like, and not what would sell.
It blows me away to see someone do a poor job, go over budget, double or even triple their timeline, and despite all that, they make money.
It can't be that easy. It just can't. I think a big key is living in the right market.
I would really enjoy searching for potential houses to flip, and coming up with ideas for what needs to be done. But contruction knowledge I think would be crucial to doing this and succeeding.
What do you folks think?

You're right. One of the things I hear experts say over and over again is to let professionals do complicated work. People lose money by trying to do things themselves that turn out crappy and not professional looking and would've saved money in the long run by hiring professionals. I also think you have to live in an area with a decent housing market. Where I live, for example, this isn't possible to do. The market just doesn't move fast enough to avoid carrying costs.
