Are you afraid to have a short haircut?

I have my long hair since I was in high school. Sometimes I have it cut shoulder length. But I really want to try a short hairstyle but I am afraid that I won't look good with it. Sometimes I convince myself that it will grow back in just few months but I am really afraid. I might look unattractive because of my short hair or people might laugh at me.

I keep mine about shoulder length, but that's just so I can pull it up in a ponytail. My whole family has an allergy to their hair, so whether it's short or long we get a rash at the base of our hair lines. I think as long as you like what your hair looks like, who cares what other people think? And I highly doubt you'd look unattractive with short hair, if you're pretty now, you'll be just as pretty or even prettier with short hair. In fact, people would probably be able to see your face better.

Hi niah - well you're absolutely right - your hair will grow back in just a few months but it can be difficult to make that initial cut. But if you want to check out some styles I believe there are websites that have hairstyles loaded and all you have to do is put your picture in one of the pictures. This way you can see what it may look like on you. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I've had long hair most of my life. When my daughter came home from school with lice 2 years ago I decided to get a short cut to avoid the problems. I liked my hair, and I like how I look in pictures now when I look back. There were two big problems I had, though. I hated the fact that I couldn't pull my hair into a ponytail if I didn't want to fuss with it. The other problem was that I had to go WAY too often to have it touched-up. Short hair requires more trips to the salon to make sure it doesn't look shaggy. IF you do get your hair cut, consider donating your hair to Locks of Love.

I've got to admit... I have become quite attached to my ponytail in my old age. I think it becomes a security blanket of sorts. I'm not quite sure why, but I'm sure you understand if you are afraid of cutting your hair because you will lose the tail.

I've had mine short since i was about 9 then 2 years ago my sister asked me to grow it out for her wedding. I've enjoyed having longer hair since it got longer but before i never had the patience to let it grow out.

Hi Niah..when I was a little girl, my mom made me have really really short hair. I hated it. So when I was old enough and on my own, I grew my hair longn down my back to my waist. It was like that all my life. I was always afraid to cut it as I thought it was the one thing about myself that I liked the best. I took the plunge last year and cut it..Shorter than it has been in years..At first, it looked nice but once home, my hair just curled up and didnt look the same. My hair grows slow and I have been waiting for it to grow back in. Now I am second guessing myself again and thinking about a shorter haircut!!...hmmm..I see your dilemma.!

I have had long hair all my life, expect for the few times, I got bold and chopped it off. My senior year in highschool, I got 19 inches cut off my hair, and oh my goodness, I loved it. I kept it short threw out that year and even up to my college years. Then, started letting it grow back out and then got bold again and cut off 16 inches after my first son was born. It was nice to go back to not having to deal with the lenght, the head aches, but noticed that it wasn't the look I was used to and did miss the long hair, and it's back long now, to my small of my back and I'm seriously wanting to cut it back off short. You will be scared the first time you get it cut, so start out going in phases, cut it to shoulder lengh and wear it like that for a few months and then then it's time for your trim, head in and have a few extra inches taken off and keep doing that until you get to the shortness you want and as with everything, IT WILL GROW BACK! Good Luck!

i love short hair... i've had the bowl cut since 7th grade then when i had my first son at 17 i started growing it out...while i liked the look it was hard to maintain...so i chopped it off recently doing the A-line style n i love it..but i'ma grow it out past my shoulders a little then style it and see where i go from there because i'm trying to lose weight so i wanna see how i end up looking and maybe have a stylist do my hair that fits my weight loss...so we'll see.

short hair - short hair also looks great
No, I won't be afraid of it. Actually I also look good when I have short hair. Besides, the hair can grow and why I should feel sad to it? I love China

Maybe you love the low fee about cutting your hair. There are so many barbers and barber's.You can choose anyone from them, paying not too much. But it will be miserable to have none good barber...That's the problem.

I used to feel the same way, but now I go for what feels good and what I think looks good on myself. I keep my hair extremely short. I used to have long hair, but it's very hard to take care of and is really hot during the summer. My hair is very thick and has natural curl. Although my curls don't show when I keep it short, it feels so much better and is much easier to style. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about what other people think. You are the one that lives with it everyday, and if you want to try something different, go for it. It will always grow back if you don't like it.

Hi there Niah1976. Yeah, i am afraid also to have a short haircut. Its my dilemma since i wanted badly to try on it but i always have this feeling that it might turn bad. I had my short haircut when i was in elementary because my mom wanted it to be. But since in 6th grade, i didn't allow to have short hair already. people always say that having a short haircut with a not so tall person will only make her shorter and i don't want it to happen in my case since i'm not that tall. I guess, i'll just try it when i have enough confidence in myself and not afraid of people who might laugh at me.

Yes I am my parents had my hair cut so short when I was a kid I hated it. I was mistaken for a boy all the time. It was so embarrassing I will never have my hair cut short. And I never had my children s hair cut short either

I had my hair so short at one time I was practically bald and let me tell you it was a liberating experience! It took me a minute to get used to looking at myself in the mirror with the new look but it was very popular. Men who were absolute strangers loved coming up to me in public to tell me how much they liked my short natural (not that I cared). Short hair is so much easier to take care of. You shouldn't worry about whether you will look good or not; it is just hair and it will grow back. Anyone who would laugh at you is not someone you should care about. If you are ready for a change go ahead and do something different. Young hair is kind of girlish but a shorter, sassy cut can make you look grown up and sophisticated. Just take your time and look through the magazines to find the right one.

I once had a really short haircut, I was mad at my sister because she was the one who instructed the hair dresser, I was kinda boyish when I was in grade school so I had to have my ears pierced and wear earrings all the time because I was afraid people will make me for a boy . I had long hair eversince hehehe, the shortest I probably had was an apple cut, where my hair is just below my ears. But I think some ladies can carry having short haircuts very well, some look really sophisticated too. I don't think there is any harm in trying

you gotta try it! don't worry about looking unattractive or if people might laugh at you- i'm sure it will turn out great for you. changing your hairstyle is very refreshing and sometimes you have to do something different! haha. i've gone from very long hair to super short and i was really scared, like i might regret or look ugly. but turns out- i loved it! and it was something different because i love to try out a new look every year. i'm currently growing it out because i want to have a perm in the near future. just make sure you go to a good stylist and bring a photo with you

The last time I got a short hair (at ear level) was when I was in grade four. Then I grew my hair from grade five to a below shoulder level. After I graduated in elementary, entered high school and finished college my hair was never cut short. The shortest was below shoulder. So in short I never had a short hair after grade four. Reason is I do not want my hair untied because I do not feel comfortable. Just like you I am also afraid that I won't look okay with short hair. And I do not want a short hair because I am not very careful with my hair. I do not go to the salon to have it treated nor hot oiled. I am just at home and I don't have budget for hair treatments. I just use shampoo and conditioner. My hair usually goes fly away so I think cutting it short won't do good. My suggestion is if you want to find out if you will have look good in a short hair, try using a wig. You can ask some of your friends or you can go to a salon that offers hairdo's so that you can try wearing wig that is short and see for yourself if you will look good or your good when you have your long hair. I believe that woman's crowning beauty is her hair but it does not defined which length of hair so better try and find out which is better.
