Government thinking about New Media Bail out

Yep another bail out .....and this one is dangerous. Newpaper and the media as a whole are feeling the crunch of the economy and progress. Most poeple get their news online now so they are not buying newpapers, so now the newpapers are in trouble. The same of cable tv. People do not watch as much news or have cable when they can go online to find out the news. So the government is considering bailing them out. Why is this dangerous? Well because it would natonalize the media. Government controlled media and news. The US critizes countries that do that. Look at Chevez. Looks at China. The government should not be involved in the media. Even if they do not "control" what htey show....well the media is not likely to bite the hand that is feeding them. And if that hand is the federal government...well you can see what kind of problems that can cause.
I say if people are no longer buying newpapers...then they need to charge for the online news sites. Or find another way to stay competitive in the market. If not then they will go bankrupt. But that is how business works....offer a product people want and you will succeed. Offer a product no one wants and you go bankrupt. IT is called supply and demand. So if they newpaper and media organizations are not longer offering products people want then they need to rethink their product and how they sell it.
What do you think? Should the government buy "bail out" the national media? Will it cause a conflict of interest? Is it the news' own fail they are in this trouble?

well, the good news is that the bill has zero cosponsors. Also, their is no incetive for support of the news media in this as this particular bill would put them as non-profit groups and would no longer under that status be alowed to endorse or offer opinions on candidates and election issues. good bye editorials, good by endorsements. no news paper in their right mind is going to support that.
It's a horrendous piece of legislation but at least it will probably not see the light of day.

Screw the media, they had a HUGE hand in getting us into our present predicament (communist for president) in the first place.
I used to buy the NY Daily News every single day until they started hardcore shilling for 0bama leading up to the election. They were no longer a viable source for anything other than left wing propaganda. They did it to themselves, screw them. They certainly don't deserve a freaking DIME of taxpayer money to fix the problem THEY created! State run media is propaganda, like the USSR's Pravda. We don't need it here and anyone who wants it is a jackass. Screw them.

No, because People are reading online and if you bail them out , they will start to fail again as soon as they use up the money. They will then need more bailout money. It is also wrong for the media to be controlled by the government or owned by the government. I think that they have to find new ways to market, even if they need to charge for online news. I agree with you!@lilwonders456 (8214)

It also interferes with a process that we've needed for a long time. The truth is freer on the net, than in the mainstream (tv, newspapers, even radio!)...and quite a few of us bloggers have been working to get people to turn away from the figureheads in the media that enable conflict, liars, and misinformation and take money for it.
It's the will of the people in its purest form. Spending money to revive the media when the people have spoken is stupid and does open the way for a hugely insulting form of fascism. It's POSSIBLE that the mainstream will take the bailout and see the light, but seriously, are we to expect that?
The news should see the current trends and save themselves. I'm not surprised they didn't see this coming, unlike with the carmakers, but there's still time for them. They could change. But they won't.

Oh I know. Every time something good happens for us, whenever a movement develops...there's something on down the line that hopes to hurt that for us.
It just means we can't back down.

Wow, I had not heard this yet. I will have to do some research into it, that's for sure. It would definitely cause problems as far as I am concerned. If they bail them out then they would have some say in what they print. The media is already one sided enough without that. We need a media source that is honest and truely willing to tell the news without favoritism. This is one bail out that we don't need!

The Goverment shouldn't be in the business of bailing out the media. These companies are owned by corporations that control dozens of major publications across the country. Media analysts for years have been warning these companies to change the way they do business, to come up with an online effective marketing strategy. They chose to ignore these warnings, and now are paying the price. Besides, allowing themselves to be nationalized will destroy their credibility for years to come.
