What do you think about NOW?

Am reading a book called the "Power of Now!" by Eckhard Toile. It is talking about (except for practicalities) forgetting a much as possible about the past and future and just enjoying the NOW It's a bit like taking a photo, which of course if for enjoying in the future. Problem is while you're taking that photo, it precludes enjoying the moment; all your attention is focused on taking the best picture! I quite often think about, how, out of the human experience, there is no such thing as time or even space. Everything was created out of the void, and everything will go back to the void. It is so difficult to emotionally feel how this would be like. We all know the experience of time dragging when we're sad, or speeding up when having fun!!! TELL ME YOUR EXPERIENCES

I think that is it wonderful to think back to happy times in the past and to treasure special memories. I tend to do that with memories of traveling like my trip around the world when I was 20 is something I will always treasure. Whilst it is possible to learn from mistakes that happened in the past I think it is not wise to dwell miserable times that occurred long ago. Rather than focus on the emotional pain I had two years ago finding out about my son's spina bifida I think of the success that he has now got. Someone said "the past is history and the present is a gift" so i think that is charming. "The future is a mystery" and I hope it will be great. "Now" doesn't last long, it is gone in a moment.

Thanks for that! I like the quote!! Life can send us challenges, but like someone wise once said - forget that one - can't think what the quote is now!!! But anyway, one thing that Eckhard Tolle was saying, is that it can be so beautiful to be in nature, and just take in the scene, being totally present, soaking in the magnificent beauty of mother earth. When we can be "present" in the present, we can be so happy

If I forget my past. Or If I were to just forget it, I woukld be nothing. I am my past. I have a great memory. And I don't believe in the future until it becomes present. But with that said, I do try to live in the present.I try to enjoy what is happening now. But to forget the past is not an option for me.

I think it is very important to let go of the past and not to fear for the future. I know people who worry so much about what might happen (and what they fear may never happen) that they don't appreciate what is happening in their life now. I always try to think that today is the best day of my life, because it is the only day I am truly alive and can appreciate what I see and feel. You can look forward and make plans but you can only experience happiness now. Personally I did find it liberating when I decided to put the past firmly behind me. I had to train myself not to think about it, and to be more mindful of where I am and what I'm doing now.
