Wow. Why do I keep doing this to myself? I must learn not to rent Cohen Brothers movies. I haven't seen one yet that I liked. Not even a little bit. No Country for Old Men...HATED IT. Burn After Reading....all the good stuff was in the one and a half minute long trailer. And I feel like some kind of alien for not enjoying these films, or even comprehending why other people enjoy them. Usually if I am displeased with a film I can at least see it's merits, the "why other people might enjoy it." The Cohen Brothers' movies...nope. Can't understand any of it. What about you? Do you enjoy their films? If you do, which was your favorite? And why?

You are definitely not alone as I struggle with a lot of films by the Cohen brothers. There are only 2 films which they have helmed which I can honestly say I enjoyed. Firstly Razing Arizona and that's only because it starred Nicolas Cage and secondly O Brother, Where Art Thou and that was partly down to the catch music and partly down to the fact it was a very quirky/ funny movie. Sometimes I feel certain directors and films get bigged up by the film critics and then people just jump on the band wagon saying that they are great.

People that I know RAVED about No Country For Old Men. They said it was wonderful, artistic, had a great story, etc. So my husband and I rented it. Worst movie mistake ever. It was awful beyond all measure. It was incredibly long, had no discernible plot, the characters were cliche, the acting was horrible, and it was just plain boring. I will take your word for it that Burn After Reading is bad. So far the only Cohen brothers film that I thought was OK was O Brother Where Art Thou. I certainly had criticisms for it, but it was fairly entertaining and funny in places. But no, you're not an alien for disliking the Cohen brothers...or if you are, I and my husband are too. :-)
